A new art challenge

Post by Sue »

We used to run an art challenge at Christmas, all having a go at the same picture. What about a new art challenge, instead of all doing the same picture we could all do something on the same theme using any medium. Many thanks to Wendy for this idea.

So any suggsetions

Does "using any medium" include photography or are you keeping it to "drawn" images?

Photography is as much an art form as painting, sculpture or silk screen printing in my view. Nolic

We can include anything creative ...photography, poetry, knitting, dance! - It is to be a challenge to our creativity not a competition.

I agree, anything creative. I am in the process of quilting a hand printed batik thyat I made in Kendal the other week. It started as a photo, became a watercolour, then became a paper batik, followed by a fabric pring then a fabric batik and now into sewing. All creative pieces. I think anything goes we just need some ideas.

Suggestion:

A creative form of something that represents the area in which you live. Be specific rather than general ie a locality rather than England or the North West

I'm happy to have a go at that Sue. Shall we put a time scale on our challenge?
:dance2: I might interpret the subject through the medium of dance...... :dance2:

Hmmmm...ok...so SOMETHING to represent where I live?
( so many things spring to mind, which is a good thing I suppose because at least something is coming...though I must admit that I've only thought of the negatives at the moment!)
Have to chose a subject and a medium then.
Ok. Will get the thinking cap on.

What do we do with it when we are finished? Post it here?

How about sculpting metal? See shed topics. Taking a rough casting and making it into a thing of beauty and utility covers most of the bases, remember the Bauhause Principle? Beauty lies in anything that is fit for purpose. Even Belle agreed that the parts of my engines had artistic merit!

Admittedly already done but I think I am trying to off load my son's apprenticeship piece ( well 3 day welding course ). Best described as the angle of the north with a H&S disaster hairdo its currently lying in his room , which thankfully is the largest in the house and I generally keep well out of. I was thinking of putting it in a Yorkshire sculpture park hoping no-one notices. [ And its not quite 'A creative form of something that represents the area in which you live' - just noticed the suggestion for the theme].

Let us know when the time for completion is - I don't do creativity myself but I'll be interested.
