That happens to me occasionally Tiz. I think it's the servers not us. In g Thumb it always shows PDF files as grey but opens them if I ask it to.

Stanley and Tiz, if you look at the properties of one of the 'thumbnails' is there a 'Hidden' checkbox? (I don't have an Ubuntu machine to look my self so am working on presumption). If there is uncheck the box and see if that makes a difference.

Pluggy, I'm on the same Firefox etc as you but I don't have any Options under the Tools menu. However, I've now found that under Preferences | Content there is a Languages box but it was already set to English UK.

Kev, Today I've found that in Abebooks (now part of Amazon) there is `Destination, Rates & Speeds' in small print under the thumbnails. If I click on it up comes a pop-up box but it already has my location as UK. However there's a tick box and if I tick it then it changes all the thumbnails. When I closed and opened the web site again I got UK data. I'll see next time I switch on the PC if it carries over from session to session.

It was me Tiz rather than Pluggy, never no mind. I wonder why you don't have the options on the tools menu? It must be a foible of that OS you use. It wont matter, both routes take you to the same place. It might be an idea to uninstall Firefox, reboot and then go for a clean install.

I had a look Kev but there was no 'hidden' option. However if you drag the thumbnail to the Gimp box it opens as a raw image and you can export it in whatever format you want from there.
Yes Linux has options but they are under edit>preferences.

I've now upgraded Mrs Tiz's 32-bit PC to Ubuntu 16.04. It was easier with the experience of doing my own PC. The install went smoothly but I had the same missing Software Centre and missing language modules as with my 64-bit install and had to add them afterwards. LibreOffice printed to the Brother printer immediately, no need for anything extra.

I've got used to the changes now and on the whole the OS is faster. Now I have acclimatised to Gimp 2.8 it's OK and also faster.

Can anyone recommend an internet domain registration service? We still use our own domain for email addresses from when we were running a business because it was in our surname. It was registered with Just-The-Name which is part of Plusnet but it's being closed down soon. There are a lot of domain services to choose from! We only want something basic to register our co.uk domain and use it for email, not web sites. Plusnet mentions names like GoDaddy, NameCheap, 1and1 and 123 Reg.

I use 1and1 for domains and hosting for OGFB. Reasonably cheap. No real issues.

Perhaps he could take a look at why no internet traffic seems to have come out of Australia for the last few days. Is there some technical problem?

Telstra are having major issues, someone has probably cut through a cable again. As Telstra pretty much have the monopoly in Australia there'll be no rush to fix it, the engineers will be out fishing on the weekend

I haven't noticed any problem with internet to Oz. I shall enquire of my sources......
Later, I asked my friend Sarah who runs the ABC network in WA and she says she hasn't heard anything about Telstra but she wouldn't be surprised......

Seems to be intermittent but still ongoing Telstra Outages
There are major upgrade works going on as the replace ADSL with fibre, could well be a knock on effect of that...

Is it just me but I've just noticed that the opening url for One Guy on windows 10 has a 'View Site Information' symbol in front of it " a circle with an exclamation mark in it" Open it reads .." Your connection to this site is not secure. You should not enter any sensitive information on this site (......) because it could be stolen by attackers." I must admit I never take any notice once I'm connected so it could have been here for ever. On the other hand it could be new. Any comments?

The page I've got open now to write this post shows the little `i' symbol in the address bar and clicking it gives a warning for OGFB saying `This connection is not secure' (I'm using Firefox on Ubuntu Linux). I think it means it doesn't have the https security that you'd want if you were using your credit card to buy stuff on the site or putting confidential information on it.

As time goes by plain old http sites like OGFB are viewed more with suspicion by new fangled browsers. It has been brought up several times in the past. Maybe the time has come to fork out for a security certificate. They aren't that expensive but I'd need to buy in the expertise to get it all to work with PHP and the board system.

Normally I would agree with you, regular users are familiar with the friendly and open banter. But, every now and again we subscribe to keep it going. Would the warning sign deter those potentials who may think there is some scam element to the donation? We live in a very twisted world.

An SSL certificate on a website will encrypt any data, this is important if people are making any kind of financial transactions on the site.

The donation link redirect through Paypal so information on there is encrypted. It does not state this though on the button before you go there, maybe it should.

Here's a forum that uses the same software as OG but has a security certificate which you view by clicking on that letter i. LINK

My impression is that on OG most of the personal information is public anyway, in the posts and photos. I suppose some folk might be transmitting other stuff in personal messages. Perhaps Pluggy could give us a rough estimate of start-up and ongoing costs of getting a certificate?
