LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
We have 3 grand children & 3 great grandchildren, and althought wa had a lovely day last Christmas Day at our granddaughters I do not like Christmas and would love to hibernate over the whole period. It is just a commercial rip off now.
Say only a little but say it well.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Couldn't agree more Moh. The CofC gradually increases pressure on the customers. The next thing we will hear is retailers reports of the build-up to Xmas and sales levels. One thing that has been missing for a couple of years is the obligatory warning of a shortage of turkeys due to whatever. I wonder if it will re-surface this year?

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
I have grave news. The small emitter cones have appeared on the lamp posts down Skipton Road but are not yet activated. Mrs Trelliss informs me that the detection equipment is up and running but she wouldn't say where. She says they are getting their first signals of the season and suspects they are from Ilkley.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Similar signs of activity reported in Colne yesterday.
Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Nothing our way yet, except for in the shops.
I have to admit that I found myself attracted to some lovely front door decorations ( wreaths etc) yesterday....our old one being rather bedraggled and faded after years of faithful service.
Had to remind myself that the only reason I was in the shop was to buy bird netting to wrap my Peach tree to protect the fruit from pesky birds.
Stayed strong and my only purchase was the bird netting.
( so proud of myself)
(Febby can't believe it either!)

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Another sign...I've seen recent newspaper advertisements for the likes of B&Q and Argos becoming embellished with a border showing representations of those unusual (presumably genetically-modified) coniferous trees, the kind that bear their fruit in winter...not the usual fir cones but the sparkly spherical fruit. These fruit are so perfect in shape that you can tell they've been specially bred for the retailers and you'll soon find them on sale. They keep quite well if wrapped in tissue paper and kept in the dark in a dry cupboard.

" sparkly spherical fruit"
" need to be wrapped in tissue paper and kept in a dark cupboard"
Makes my heart race just thinking about them. Willing to trade juicy Peaches for some of these exotic treats.

Put that foil hat back on now Marilyn!
Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Putting the foil hat back on, reluctantly.
The pretty, sparkly orbs are telling me not to though Wendy, and they say your recently harvested carrots are not actually carrots at all.
Must seek clarification from Mrs. Trellis.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Mrs Trelliss says that the artificial Xmas trees are not emitters, simply retail goods. She has no opinions on Wendy's carrots but believes they are harmless. She also believes that the GDP figures are an attempt to ceate confidence to boost Xmas spending. Lights have been seen in the North and appear to be moving slowly in a SW direction.

Not carrots! I'm off to wrap them in foil.....

Time for the foil hat down here then. It's not surprising so many roofs are sprouting shiny panels, and now I know what they are.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Never thought of solar panels as protection against the emitters! Makes sense doesn't it.....

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
I had mail from Mrs Trelliss a couple of days ago telling me that her sources had told her the erection of the large emitters in Town Square was imminent. She was right. They are erected and coupled up. Not sure whether they are switched on yet but it must be imminent. Any sightings of the Coca Cola advert yet?

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
No lights in Barrowford this year. Pendle Council won't pay fro them so its just what the traders and the parish council come up with. Nolic

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Moh, you've reminded me of the wonderfully funny posts we had on the shops in Barrowford. I do miss Nandy Gigglepants' contributions. I know that sites like Oneguy grow and change but sometimes we lose good stuff. It was one of the reasons why the site took off so quickly.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Xmas activities in the square today so the emitters will be switched on. I not that the TV advertising for Xmas is in full swing. A bit earlier than usual?

Funnily enough the large emitters weren't switched on yesterday. I'm with Maz, the double layer of foil is installed.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY
Will make sure cones are broadcasting on full strength from today! (Both were on from about tea time yesterday.)
Including the battery powered LEDs on the lanterns, we switched about 50,000 lights on in Barlick on Saturday. Thanks to low energy lights, the display uses about a 1/10th the electric that the old bulbs used.
