Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
If you go to the Toys section there's a 1.2-metre Inflatable Dracula....
`Welcome your guests with this scary but fun 1.2M Inflatable Dracula! Quick and easy to inflate and store, this daunting Dracula inflatable is sure to make your spooky home stand out on fright night.'

I saw an Asda advert on TV encouraging families to spend big on 'Fright Night' and have a locked down family Halloween. Meanwhile kids go hungry and people lose their homes. Two Nations.

I remember the 'seebackroscope'. Essential post war personal protection gear.

Ha, here we go, interesting to note that the device could be purchased for stamps to the value or silver! Another forgotten corner that was mentioned on the site recently.

Today's project was to replace the old panel radiator, in the bathroom, for a towel rail. I've already reduced the size of the 'boiler' cupboard (would have originally had a hot water cylinder in it) and moved the toilet so I could put the washing machine in the bathroom.
French doors and new radiators in the dining room next, that'll have to wait until early next year though.
A bit of paint to touch up on the skirting board and that'll do for the bathroom.French doors and new radiators in the dining room next, that'll have to wait until early next year though.

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
That's not a 'bit of a job', it's a major contract Kev!
Brilliant link Ian. I can remember it so well but having never found an example of the advertisement was beginning to doubt my memory! Wonderful! Interesting that it first surfaced in 1903, much older than I thought.
My major project at the moment is replacing my bed base. Supporting local industry so I am going direct to Silentnight. Three months delivery but that's not a problem. Keep the employment in the town.

It was around 3 hours to change the radiator, just a bit of pipework to move. The 'other' jobs were done months ago.

Here's a wider shot, gives a better comparison to the original.

Not the most taxing of jobs but it still took me a good hour to get some of the fiddly nuts and bolts in. It'll certainly be good for alfresco dining events.

That looks serious Kev. Did it come with its own dedicated fire extinguisher?

No fire extinguisher but a lot of 'do's and don'ts' in the paperwork.

I guessed it was a Chiminea, and so it is. Are they the things you put on the patio then try to heat up the whole world? Looks like a lot of fun. I think I want one. I've got just the spot. The Lutyens wooden bench will have to wait.

Smokeless fuel? Airborne particulates? Carbon emissions? You'll have men in high-vis jackets descending on you, Kev!

I'd like to claim credit for it, but sadly can't. It's the velcro memory at work again.
I may patent 'self othering' though, and I'm definitely claiming 'persiflagillistically'.

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
Today's project is to replace the guttering and barge boards, on the kitchen, in anticipation of the new bay window. Rotten barge boards made removal very easy, a bit of gentle wiggling over the top of the small bay preserved the lead flashing.
What came out was definitely past its sell by date. There's rain blowing in the wind so I'll do the other side tomorrow, it'll be much easier as there's no window
Looks a bit neater now, a bit of sand and cement and masonry paint will finish the job but I'll wait until the new bay is in to do that. What came out was definitely past its sell by date. There's rain blowing in the wind so I'll do the other side tomorrow, it'll be much easier as there's no window
