The Salamanca

The Salamanca
The Salamanca steam engine built in 1812 by Matthew Murray at the Round Foundry in Water Lane, Holbeck, Leeds, which ran on a local line there from June of that year pulling coal trucks. It was the first-ever succesful steam engine before the likes of Stephenson's 'Rocket'. [From The Leeds Tercentenary Official Handbook, 1926].
