Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
To clarify Stanley's 0.27p a day in case anyone confuses it with 27p, he's talking about £1 a year being equivalent to a quarter of a penny a day. (I'd said a farthing but that would be unfair because when we had those they were worth much more than a quarter of a modern penny!) If I understand it c...

Sue, Mrs Tiz and I will look forward to hearing about your father's life story when you feel able to compile it. Putting it on the site will be a good way of making him known to many others and ensuring he won't be forgotten. One of our neighbours, in his late 80s, has written his story but he doesn...

Belle, how could anyone ever accuse you of having "never contributed anything" to OG? Surely you're willing to pay a pound now to help Doc keep on running the site? I don't know where you got the idea in the other thread that there had been "publicly naming and shaming". Doc need...

It's the Paypal/Ebay combo that's toxic. I use Ebay but never with Paypal. Paying a donation to Doc's OG account via Paypal using your credit or debit card is OK.

Maz, I think you've got it the wrong way around...you pay *not* to watch it (and to keep OG going).

Doc has set it up so that adverts are shown to make some extra funds for OGFB, but you don't have to see them - anyone who makes a donation will be shielded from the ads, they won't see them. So it means ever member contributes, either directly through donations and freeing themselves from ads, or b...

Inshore, river and lake fish, particularly those that are vegetarian, tend to pick up an earthy taste from the silt in the water. The taste and smell is harmless and comes from microorganisms called Actinomycetes found in all soils, and its the smell we like of freshly dug earth but I don't like it ...

The Presidents of the EU and EC, Rompuy and Barroso, are in Beijing meeting with the Chinese Premier and hoping to get China to invest oodles of cash into the EU to save it from economic meltdown. As I've mentioned before, I find this very disturbing, the thought that European leaders (including the...

If I heard the report correctly over the weekend, the entire length of the Danube is frozen solid and as this is a major working river there are major economic implications being suggested. That's an interesting one Richard because the Danube was almost running on empty last year due to lack of rai...

Stanley, thanks for all the advice and information. I won't go down the blast pipe route because we may not be in this house for much longer so I'll leave the next owner to sort it out. If I were staying a long time I would have the chimney extended which might do the job. I agree that increasing th...

In the school playground in the 1950s we were told not to stand by the building when it snowed because of the icicles hanging from the gutters - and they were big icicles too! (They were always bigger in the past!)

There is trouble at the moment because Halifax have been terminating pet insurance policies although the pet owners have thought it was insurance for the lifetime of the pet. Ian, I had a look to see if there was information on the Web, but not much to be found. It seems to rely mostly on the grit being washed through the system and the councils having to do some extra cleaning of the drains. Where it ends up depends on whether it goes through the sewage or storm drain p...

Good luck with the press Thomo, don't be shy about telling them how difficult it is for your wife and how much pain she is having, even worse so someone who likes to be so active and is obviously so cherished by her employer. I would expect your incident to be treated with great interest by the press.
