Re: Seen in the News

I received a newsletter this morning and one of the articles was this. I'd not heard anything about it before. Apparently the reservation should only last minutes but there are some people finding they have to wait days before their £100 is released. It seems to apply only to payment at the pump - i...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

I missed seeing the posts yesterday (too much time in the garden!) but better late than never - Happy Birthday, Wendy! And thanks for posting the photo, it's good to see both of you looking so well. That reminds me of a story my mother liked to tell...When I was a young child I had a pal called Mich...

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

But not so well earlier on. Our May/June/July quarter generation was 1540 kWh but last year for the same period it was 1721 kWh. Lots of rain clouds were a problem. Also, when we had the last period of full sun the high ambient temperatures reduced the potential generation.

They're another form of concretion with the cement being haematite, red iron oxide, but it has migrated to the outside to form a thick, resistant layer. There are smaller ones on Mars! (Cue social media reports that Martians brought them to Utah!)

Seeing the end of my last post - ` standing alone and wondering where everyone has gone ' - I've just realised that I unwittingly described what I believe was the way that misbehaving officers were dealt with in the old days. Left alone in a room with a loaded pistol. But it wouldn't work with Boris...

Re: POLITICS CORNER

If Brexit had hadn't been long and drawn out, and then taken over by the Covid emergency Boris would probably have been long gone, sacrificed by the Tory right wing using the excuse that he didn't give them the hard Brexit they'd expected, and by the public because they'd finally realised that Brexi...

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

That report is very good news although we've got to keep in mind that - as the researchers point out - it doesn't mean no virus is circulating, just that it wasn't in the areas they swabbed. If this work went to a journal for publication it would be put out to referees for their comments. I would be...

Spooky. Ben MacIntyre wrote a very detailed article on The Jackal and the attempt to kill General de Gaulle in last Saturday's Times. Apparently Forsyth's book has been found in the possession of a number assassins and attempted assassins and there's a complex web of fact and fiction.

What you've posted is word for word a big section out of a web page of the Global Warming Policy Foundation which is run by climate change deniers such as Nigel Lawson. The article is written by Fraser Myers of The Daily Teleg...

There are very modern ones too, still being used. The Falklands islanders used them on the roads to damage Argentine vehicles' tyres - I've got a memory of hearing that they got scattered on the runway at Port Stanley too (perhaps cheaper and easier than sending Vulcan bombers!). Here's a CIA page:...
