Re: THORNTON-IN-CRAVEN BYGONE DAYS IN AN ANCIENT PARISH. 03
Brilliant - thanks so much Wendy that is really interesting:-) The earliest reference I have to the property is a record of the birth of Joseph Boothman there in December 1877 so it is possible that the Boothman family took over the lease as soon as it was released in 1876. The article is entitled T...

Re: THORNTON-IN-CRAVEN BYGONE DAYS IN AN ANCIENT PARISH. 03
Glad to have triggered happy memories Hartley:-) Wendy - many thanks for the photo and your information about Hague House being used as a school. You say you have details about that in your archives - is it available in the on-line archive? Presumably the school was later than the 1880s when my ance...

Re: THORNTON-IN-CRAVEN BYGONE DAYS IN AN ANCIENT PARISH. 03
My ancestor, William Silverwood Boothman, spent his later years (1875-1878) at Hague House, Thornton in Craven and his son (John William Boothman) seemingly inherited the property as he was there in the 1881 census. Do you know whether Hague House still exists? Next door in 1881 was an 'uninhabited'...

Re: JEPP HILL
Of course, silly me, I should have seen they were schedule numbers.
Who was the 'Geoffrey' that Gepp Hill was named after?

Re: Bridge Chapel, Barnoldswick
Thanks for this. Another spelling that threw me is of Jepp Hill - spelt Gep Hill on the 1841 census record for my ancestor.

Re: JEPP HILL
Do you know how the house numbers run/ran on Jepp Hill. My ancestors were William & Betty Boothman who lived at 67 Gep (sic) Hill in 1851 and then in Church Street (no number given) in 1861 and 1871. The were 'grocers and ironmongers' so presumably lived above the shop there. It may even have be...

Re: BROUGHTON NOTES BY NIGEL
Thanks Nigel - the two spellings threw me. My ancestors were William & Betty Boothman who lived at 67 Gep Hill in 1851 and then in Church Street in 1861 and 1871. The were 'grocers and ironmongers' so presumably lived above the shop there. It may even have been the same place - on the corner of ...

Re: BROUGHTON NOTES BY NIGEL
Hi Nigel,
Is there still a Gep Hill in Barnoldswick? I cannot seem to find it on the map.

Re: Bridge Chapel, Barnoldswick
Many thanks Wendy for the Birth and Burial indexes. These are fascinating. I had not been able to discover anything further back than Betty King's birth but I now see that her parents are John and Mary and she had 10 siblings - although 2 of them did not survive. I was also interested to see the Boo...

Re: Bridge Chapel, Barnoldswick
All the discussion is about post 1803 but I have an ancestor whose birth is recorded at Bridge Chapel on 19th December 1803. This record is from FamilySearch http://www.familysearch.org - a service provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). It has worldwide genealogical r...
