Re: School Dinners - Good and Bad Memories ?
The tops of our school milk were cardboard, after washing they were handy for making wool pompoms. We used to get orange juice & cold liver oil in the afternoons - when I was monitor I made sure there was only orange juice when it came to my turn!! I remember those cardboard tops for school mil...

Re: School Dinners - Good and Bad Memories ?
I went to grammar school in Bradford during the war. We had a school kitchen and "dining room" and vile comestibles. The country also had serious food rationing. The most memorable thing about school dinners was seeing the way the cooks used to come in the morning with empty shopping baske...

It is a universal anti nose picking glove. These were issued to weavers who were weaving parachute material during the war, so that they did not soil the fabric with nose pickings. The were informed that they should use the picking sticks which were provided with each loom.

"Eat them cold Tripps, they're very nice !!" Why do I get the feeling that I'm being led into a trap here? Perhaps the !! Anyway Tesco were sold out yesterday, so perhaps a lucky escape? I will try again though. Despite my name though, I couldn't eat tripe, and oysters are definitel...

I have a feeling it is all related to the size of the brain and the controlling ego, and of course their reciprocity.

Re: Where have you all gone to?
Nice to see this problem being addressed constructively. My favourite radio programme is Woman's Hour on which the depth of discussion on a broad range of topics is a wonderful example. Everything from medical advice to why M&S bras are more 'push-uppier' to quote one young lady. No problem on ...

Re: CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING
I find it sad to hear Catty referring to `false science' and especially implying James Lovelock might have been `doing it all for profit'. I have reread my post and can not see where I have maligned Lovelock. I did write ".... and the worlds populations must obey the new priests of Gaia in ord...

Re: CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING
Having read up on the Gaia theory/philosphy/hypothesis because I was clueless, from my reading it would be more in line with climate change sceptics views than advocates. Viewing the earth as a self regulating entity certainly doesn't need priests saving us from global warming. Catty should be on b...

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS
When using metaphor you can have your cake and eat it... On the radio this morning a man was talking about the re-starting of the Corus steelworks. He said he was brought up in a steel town at a time when the works were closing and: "It was painted red with iron oxide; it was one of the countr...
