Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
According to the Oxford History of Britain the first purpose built cinema in the world was built in Colne in 1907. Can this be true and if so where was it?
The Guinness World Records suggests otherwise and says it was the Theatre Eden in La Ciotat in France.

I'm afraid this wouldn't do for me and it means that a bad driver can be lured into a sense of false security thinking the car will do everything including stopping if someone walks in front!
Some cars already do!

Re: THE FLATLEY DRYER
A couple of examples spring to mind; Mary Queen of Scots (although I'm not certain she was called that during her lifetime) and Louis Philippe the last king of France. He was styled King of the French to differentiate him from his Bourbon ancestors and because he was a constitutional monarch. Much g...

Re: STEAM ENGINES AND WATERWHEELS
Manchester's "The Arms of Krupp" is a fascinating, if lengthy insight into the skulduggery of the arms trade. The transnational nature of Krupp's business made such dealings quite easy. Krupp's patriotism was far outweighed by his drive for profit. British shells used a licenced copy of a ...

Stanley,
These oilers fascinate me, I can watch them for hours but what keeps the banjo (?) in its position? Why doesn't it follow a much greater arc? Is it a matter of geometry, that the centre of the banjo is in the same plane as the centre of the bearing?

Gun barrels
Stanley, The barrels on large naval guns had a surprisingly short life, they could fire around 200 rounds before wearing out. It was possible to re-line them and the Admirality maintained a central store with spare barrels which were either new or refurbished. I have read that it took longer to make...

Height of stack
Stanley,
Was there a correlation between the size of the boiler and the height of the stack? I see from your previous posts that the quality of the coal was a factor but that apart, did a big boiler require a taller chimney?

The Ford is a "G" reg, which makes it an 89/90 registration, so the picture can't have been taken before then, if that's of any help.
