Re: Shed Matters 3
My boiler will get dirty eventually Stanley. I am still considering whether to gas fire it. I have found a piece of teak window bottom for a base and think I might tile that. I have to castings for a Stuart 10H to go with it but that will have to wait until the Duchess locomotive is off the bench. I...

Re: Shed Matters 3
Today I tried the fittings on my boiler. A project that I have had around for a while, it had its shell pressure test over a year ago. So next move is to seal the joints and give the whole system a pressure test.

Re: Shed Matters 3
As you said yesterday, Stanley, it is nice when you have the right tools for the job. I’m getting near that stage most of the time but I can’t always find the tool when I know that I have one. Just too much crammed into the little workshop.

Re: Shed Matters 3
I ‘aquired’ an Anglepoise magnifier with ring light from our Manchester workshop when it closed. It was headed for the skip so I don’t feel guilty. That and an eyeglass usually suffice for me at present but I am a little younger than you Stanley. When the circular tube failed recently I bought a led...

Re: Shed Matters 3
That’ll do nicely I recon Stanley. A good session in the workshop then. Many thanks for the piece on directions of rotation. I got my little beam engine out and put some air on it and it does run over as you say. I’ll remember that sometime soon as I have a set of Stuart 10H castings to machine. My ...

Re: Shed Matters 3
Nice one Stanley, glad it has worked out. So which way is ‘running backwards’? Looking at the last view which way is the flywheel turning. I must get my little beam engine outand look at it.

Re: Shed Matters 3
The devil is in the detail as they say Stanley. This is the most difficult bit. I see you had problems with the clearance on the parallelogram of the watt’s linkage. It is a very tight spot. My French friend who is building the Model Engineer beam engine has noted that there is only a few thou clear...

Re: Shed Matters 3
Nice work Stanley. Is this a Stuart ‘standard’ beam engine. I am currently building Elmer’s beam engine. It’s a bit smaller than yours at just 3” high. I am not too practiced at working in aluminium and will be altering the design to put the crankshaft in brass bushes. 93D0388B-3C52-48C1-A150-5E3C31...
