Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

A Linux question for Pluggy. I have a Compaq Presario V5000 Laptop with Ubuntu 11.04 on it and can't get the S-Video output to work. Video card is ATI Technologies Inc Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE). It uses the open source video driver that came with Ubuntu 11.04 I'd be grateful for any assistance...

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Looks like I've been reading sceptic websites. This site http://info.cat.org.uk/questions/pv/what-energy-and-carbon-payback-time-pv-panels-uk suggests the energy payback for the manufacture of PV panels is only around 2.5 years in the UK. PV panels don't have a set life, they gradually lose efficien...

Re: Original Posting on Top Of Each Page

Don't bother for me, the original posting occurring at the head of each page was one of my pet hates on the old site. More often than not it was irrelevant because the thread had evolved or strayed from the original anyway. I visit several forums and I've never seen it elsewhere.

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

I have no regrets about the panels, but they are a financial investment, not a means of saving the planet.

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

The government is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea on FITs. At one side is fuel poverty or more specifically the 'green subsidy' element of everyones fuel bills and the PV industry on the other crying foul because they were trying to address the balance too harshly. The bottom line is ...

Re: CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING

You must be reading some sceptic websites, the joint 2 warmest years on record are 2005 and 2010. 2011 was the 10th warmest on record globally and the 2nd warmest on record in the UK. http://www.csmonitor.com/Environment/2011/0112/Global-warming-waning-Hardly.-2010-was-tied-as-warmest-year-on-record...

Re: Minor glitches

Thanks for sorting those glitches Doc - I don't know how you manage to cope with us all, it must be like having a family of dozens of kids. Gloria, I hope you didn't mind me asking Doc to sort your witchy! It might be a sore subject Tiz and she might put a jinx on me as well as yourself, because wh...

Re: The Ultimate Dog Tease

Its a youtube video so you need Adobe Flash installing on your computer. If you're using Firefox you might have some addons that block Flash (its something of a can of worms security wise so the paranoid tend to block flash). If you can't view Youtube videos (or BBC iplayer or a million other things...

Re: Why I choose PHPBB3 Software for the site

A recursive acronym so beloved of the Linux community. I love it. PHP Hypertext Protocol. I take it as its only £120 a year hosting its running on a lot less than a dedicated server. And the spell checker works, (It never did for me on the old site). It looks like a quality site now, something to be...
