He was only 20 at that point Ian, and probably enjoying his new life. Made a change from cutting hair in Dudley Hill and having no prospects beyond that. I cant imagine what it must be like to not have a photographic record of the family Eilleen, I am lucky to have pictures going back to great grand...

Out in the poly tunnel, still tidying up and starting to get a few seeds in. It was pleasantly warm in there yesterday. Also thinking about my dad who died 10 years ago. I spent the night at Mum's on Saturday and dug out the hundreds of wartime letters they wrote to one another. All we did was to so...

Have you tried searching the 17th -18th Century newspapers available online through Lancashire Libraries? I just tried searching for "55th Regiment" and it produced over 300 results. All you need is your library card. click here

Just been to the Craven Heifer for lunch. It is a very pleasant place, though Stanley certainly wouldn't recognise it! The chippy is still there across the road.

Excellent news Pluggy. How are the panels performing now the days are getting longer? We were surprised to find ours producing between 500 & 800watts in the mist and drizzle the other day. Enough to be exporting to the grid.

Good Luck Julie. Nolic, I have sent you a pm, as we went through an awful time when we adopted back in the '80s. Hoped things were better now, and that much more support was given to adopting parents, but perhaps things haven't changed that much. Oh dear, I'm mainly meant to down in Colne library, a...

I think my bit of land is on Black Bowland Shale. Stanley put up a link on the old website to a geological survey from many years ago where it actually named the farm. The Lothersdale anticline passes very close too. We have a bit of topsoil then solid shale, which must be why the soil turns to mush...

A Trawden Forest walk this morning, just over 5 miles starting & finishing at the Wycoller car park. We walked down into the village then took the first track to the right towards Raven Rock Farm. Followed the path off to the right and up wooden steps into the wood. We passed to the right of Rav...

Re: A Cornish Challenge for Mr B. Bluesinger
It's one of those names that gets spelled in a variety of ways. There aren't many Trossells around in this country, more Trussells and even more Throssells. I have come across all three spellings tracing the family history back. My dad's family (all ag labs.)came to Bradford from Huntingdonshire in ...

Re: A Cornish Challenge for Mr B. Bluesinger
That's great Mr B. Thank you. There was a family of Trussell/Trossell people who were Norman nobility going back to medieval times, but they seem to have fizzled out later on with a couple of renegades being hung for highway robbery.

A Cornish Challenge for Mr B. Bluesinger
OK Bradders, I think you may be spending too much time trawling through YouTube clips, so I have a Cornish local history question for you. My maiden name is Trossell, and there is a little group of farms near North Petherwin in Cornwall with Trossell or something very similar in their names. I would...
