Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

on holiday in Alnwick. I worked just outside Alnwick for a few years in the early 1970's, and the castle then was a teacher training college. I looked on Streetview recently and found it exactly as I remembered it - then thought why shouldn't it be. I guess little has changed on the main street for...

The mind boggles, this was a senior politician with responsible jobs. The mind might have boggled once upon a time, but I now assume that most politicians are probably crooks, at best a bit odd, and most male Tories are gay - declared or otherwise. I heard on LBC news this morning that a ne...

Thanks I shall watch the take off. I love the Youtube flight deck videos, though that's as near to actual flying as I want to be. I still find it hard to believe that an aircraft weighing a couple of hundred tons cand do such a thing as fly.

My lads still occasionally mock my pronunciation of such words as 'castle' etc. I use the short 'a' whilst they (mainly brought up on the South of England) use the long vowel. I try not to let it annoy me, confident that my pronunciation is correct.

PS I knew where 'perks' came from.

Interesting and a bit spooky that today's phone in topic on LBC was the high rates of pay of Local Government executives, and comparisons with the pay of the Prime Minister - a rather niggardly £165k pa. I was going to do this in strict chronological order, but find that Clip 1 is so full of potenti...

This wa prompted by Lee Kuan Yew's policy of paying his MP's a good salary so they would not be tempted by bribery. I've removed the rose tinteds, and find that he also said words to the effect that 'if you cross me I will put the knuckle dusters on and wait for you down a dark alley, but which do y...

I've accumulated a long list of cuttings over several years, that have piqued my interest from all over the interwebthingy, and I've toyed with the idea of publishing them in a new thread perhaps on a regular basis. this daily sterilising of my pot might also have a bearing on how I manage to be so infection free. I can't remember when I last had a common cold. I suppose this is loosely politics, and is in essence, a summary of the history of the last century. I've been watching a lot of Lee Kuan Yew's videos lately.
