Re: Lancashire Records Launch On-line

Thanks for that Gloria. I've been a member of LFHHS for a couple of years, but never joined the forum. Tried once but gave up, I think the process was not too easy - or maybe they wanted too much commitment to Yahoo? Might try again.

Re: GOOD TV

Reposted after being put on the wrong thread... I watched that. It was remarkable. I wouldn't want to be on the first flight after the maintenance though. To schedule the reurn to service for the same day the maintenance ended seems a bit risky to me, despite the mantra "safety is paramount&quo...

Re: READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

That's a timely post. I started "The 39 steps" by John Buchan yesterday. I found it lurking on my shelf whilst searching for something else. Didn't even know I had it. Having seen several film versons, I was surprised to see how thin it was. We will see how close the films were to the orig...

Re: What's on your playlist?

Calluna started a thread on the old site on transferring audio from vinyl to computer when she went afloat. I had a go of course, and got Audacity, and a gadget, but it wasn't a great success. Then along came Spotify, and rendered it all virtually redundant.

Here's part two. I bet you wish you hadn't asked. Actually I'm really enjoying this. Looking at and dusting down discs that have literally been on a shelf for years. That's about half now, but I'll give it a rest. Getting a bit worried - I haven't found my Gillian Welch collection yet. Kirst...

NIce idea for a topic - beats knitting patterns and Rosie Thomas novels. I will make a list of my cd's and records and tapes. and inflict it upon you. It will keep me amused, and pander to my recently self diagnosed OCD, though as Captain Oates said once - "I may be some time". At ...

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS

I remember there was qute a lot on the topic of muffins and other bread rolls on the previous site. I seem to remember we got quite exercised on the topic of 'fly cemetery' too. I asked then had anyone heard of de Clerque's French muffins, but no one had, and there was nil on google. Things ...

Re: BEWARE! THE BANKS ARE OUT TO GET YOU!

Wow - you're more suspicious than me. There's no danger of me doing as you suggest. By means of 1471, and google, the call came from the Stevenage office of the Leeds. I've had an account there for years - back in the day when it was worth saving. I've followed your link, and just for fun go...

Yes - really interesting. I didn't think there were any factories like the chocolate one except on Emmerdale. I assumed everyhing was done by machine. Amazing that it was economic to pack them by hand in Preston! Quite ironic to watch this as not so long ago I had a major battle to stay at work for ...

Re: BEWARE! THE BANKS ARE OUT TO GET YOU!

There must be huge margins on house insurance. I have just had a lady from the Leeds Building Society on the phone, anxious to get me a quote. I said I had renewed yesterday, but she said I had a cooling off period, and urged me to get her quote, and then cancel. Don't know how she knew I was in the...

Re: BEWARE! THE BANKS ARE OUT TO GET YOU!

Here's my two pennorth. I got my renewal asking for £204. No need to do anything as they would take it from my bank. Next day I got an email from the same company inviting me to ask for an on line quote. This I did, and it came in at £146, for identical cover. I thought this would be for "brand...

Re: STATE PENSION

You can use the "Rule of 72" to find how long it takes to double your money. Divide the rate of interest into 72 to give the time required in years. So at 3% it takes 24 years.

Peter - absolute nonsense isn't it. Deserves a wider - national audience. Have you thought of going to the press / radio? Richard Littlejohn would love it. How have we ended up in this state? I am bemused.

I rest my case. That would fall comfortably within my definition of a scam. I wonder if the results from two identical samples would produce identical results? Reminds me of allergy, and intolerance testing. I can think of many better ways of spending £200, but if anyone thinks it to be a good deal,...

Where have you all gone to?

As per topic title. The site is gradually taking its name literally, with the number of posters rapidly diminishing, and often the site becomes a "no post area" after lunchtime. At least that is my impression. Where have you gone? Regular valued contributors have vanished. Have you gone to...

I agree Tizer. I tried my best to avert the crisis but failed. When Northern Rock offered 125% mortgages, I closed my account with a flourish, and made sure all in the branch knew why. - "Not with my money, you're not " I cried. Poor grammar, but from the heart. Similarly when Brad...
