Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013

I saw the light last night! A single fast moving streak across the sky, strangely heading East(ish). Am I right or should it be coming from the East? Or is it significant that I am in the East? Anyhow, it moved quickly across the sky and then puff! it was gone. It was soooo fast it is no wonder we h...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Not a site that appreciates adverts (I do know) but recommendations - ah there's the thing. So the stay at the Alma was fine, thank you to all concerned. The breakfast scored an unsurpassable 10 out of 10. The staff were kind and courteous and the rooms were just right. The evening meal was brillian...

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013

Heard that news also in East Angular and am typing this post craning my neck out of the dining room window to keep a look-out. No news yet but I am hopeful, just waiting for the sky to clear.... As an aside, I understand from the local pamphleteer that Steam Punk is to hold a Dickensian fayre close-...

How easily we choose the correct words! Erratic progress describes perfectly my journey through life! Thanks Stanley. Well done those new eyes, 10/10 for perception.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Try the Craven Heifer in Kelbrook Julie or the Alma Inn at Laneshawbridge. The Alma had rooms, dad and I are safely booked in for Tuesday night. Thank you for the suggestion, the Craven Heifer was full as was the Tempest which I thought may be so. I am determined that next time I travel to the area...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Thanks all for all the suggestions, I should be able to book something from one of those. I came across the Alma Inn courtesy of Google. Just got to wait for confirmation of the funeral date now and I shall book either for one or two nights for us and certainly a night for dad also, where he normall...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Something I will be doing today is looking for a "stand-by" hotel in case I can't get me and dad into the Tempest. I seem to think I may have asked the question before but does anyone know of a nice hotel in the Earby / Nelson / Burnley district, preferably licensed and does bed, breakfast...

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013

Conical emitters popping up all over the place in Thetford (once the capital of East Angular). More alarmingly, the Guildhall has been over-run with some sort of evergreen which appears looming over the eaves in a menacing manner. I must investigate in daylight. p.s for those of you who want to pict...

Re: OBITUARIES

Commiserations Jules.... It does start you thinking doesn't it. We miss so many opportunities when they are still alive. I suppose that's part of the human condition. I've always been aware of how much I don't know about my parents and that's why I wrote four volumes of Stanley's Story for my kids....

Re: Old fashioned clean jokes

I just looked back at a couple of previous posts and Stanley mentioned Peter Tinniswood and Uncle Mort. The best line I ever heard (possibly) was a Peter Tinniswood line. "Eee Carter, your breath does smell sweet. Have you been sucking the peak of your cloth cap again?" And now I have some...

Got all tied up in stuff at work, went directly to T*sc* then Sainsbugs; too late for tea so had a snack in the car on the way home. Most unsatisfactory. Shepherds pie tonight though.

Comrade, when do 'they' start to realise that the cuts are going too far and are going to cost us dear in the future? Julie what does a Grandfather Interview involve? Interesting concept is a Grandfather interview. Your manager's manager interviews you for a different perspective on what goes on at...

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013

Relief! I think they must have lowered East Angular overnight, all seems to be back to normal on the cloud front which can only mean that I am back to 23 meters above sea level again. All the Queen's horses would have had a tough time carting HM to Xandring-ham if it were at cloud level.

Re: LIGHTS IN THE SKY 2013

I am ashamed to say that I gave up on look-out duties early last night and scurried indoors. All the cloud was at ground level and it was WET! I don't believe clouds are made of candyfloss any more. Anyway the reason I am writing all this is that someone (and they will know who they are) must have r...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...

Today, I have been mainly tasting wine at work - in the region of 24 or so I think, I lost count. I was good and didn't swallow any - at all. My secret - I really don't like wine at all. As yet (approaching 60) I have not found a drinkable wine and today - if it were going to happen - I should have ...

Re: PET'S CORNER

A fireguard is required before we light the woodburner in the living room, Sam-u-el the Span-u-el (must shorten this to Sam) has lost his sight since last year and although he will feel the heat off the fire, I don't want him wandering into the area and burning his nose. My concerns grew when he wal...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

Well so far today, the guttering that has come away at the side of the house, maybe the ivy was the only thing holding it up, and the rear end of a mouse scuttering across the work surface. Both need fixing..... Mind you that is not the first mouse in the house, nor the first bit of guttering to dis...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

Sorry, I answered the question "what did we have for tea?" and my response was "too much!" "Good belly hold all" as I've heard my mother say at the dinner table.
