Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Fuel tanker drivers have voted to go on strike so there could be petrol shortages in the next few weeks. Don't know whether they will strike over the Easter holidays though ?

Yes, we are a "nation of hoarders". But, as you say, its nice to know that everyone else does the same. Ha.

Watching David Suchet, actor Poirot, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Jimmy Jarche, taking photos on his old camera - the very same camera used by the well-known Fleet Street photographer himself.

Re: When do things become stuff?
Like you Sue I hoard stuff from old books, magazines, cds, tapes, empty boxes and much more. I find it difficult to throw stuff out. Sometimes I chuck things out and then fetch them back in again - thinking I'll need them at some point in the future. Its so difficult isn't it.

Hiya Lyne, I too like olde Barrowford stuff as I lived there for a while when I was a baby. Dixon Street was the place. The place has changed quite considerably, but I do like looking at any photos of the place.

Re: Difficulty re-registering
Yes Zeke, I know what you mean. I liked the old set-up. But we have to move on to modernization and all that. We can't and won't be able to go back to what was. This new OGFB seems pretty good now and I think we will all like it eventually. But as I say "I know what you mean".

Yes I think you are probably correct in what you say Stanley. We won't see any difference in our day to day living, just bits around the fringes perhaps. Its all just a complete sham.

George Osborne giving his budget speech. What a load of old nonsense once again. Everything going up, nobody will be any better of. Tories waving white papers, Lib Dems grinning all the time. Absolutely horrid.

Re: DAB in Barlick
The question is, is DAB any good. I've heard many people say its not that brilliant - fm is just as good. But I'm not sure whether its worth purchasing a DAB radio, yet.

Re: Hello everyone
Hi Silver lady, I mean Cheryl, welcome back to OGFB. The site has changed as you can see but Barlick is much the same, really, just a bit more modernised, something that has happened to most towns up north. But if you look closely, you can still just about make out where old buildings, roads and rai...

I have had a couple of filofaxes but have neved used them, instead I use a large diary with one page for every day. For any other notes I just buy a cheap reporters notebook from a well-known local store and in this I write all my bits and bobs. A diary is much the same as a filofax I suppose. :conf...

That brings back good memories Stew and hard and oatcakes. You don't see oatcakes much these days. Its a shame these things from our past are disappearing.

I heard on the radio this evening that the Welsh actor Philip Madoc has died aged 77. He was famous as the u-boat commander in one of the episodes of Dad's Army. The famous part where he asks "what is your name" to which Capt Mainwaring replys "Don't tell him, Pike". I never tir...

Re: Joseph Bracewell/Susy Hartley/John Higgin
Yes Eileen it can, if you let it, take over your life. I try to leave it to others to sort out my ancestry. Once I start trying to delve into it a long way back its gets more confusing and I end up with a headache. So many names are the same - too many Hartleys in my ancestry to know which branch th...

Ooooo Stanley thankyou for your information on Friday night/Saturday morning. I didn't know that. For me on Friday nights its reading a good book then sleep and Saturday morning more sleep. Bit boring really. That's life, for me at any rate.
