Re: FUTURE BARNOLDSWICK AND LOCAL CENTENARY RELATED EVENTS.

Cheers Mate, I'll pop round one evening next week. I have been busy helping to reprint a WW1 book for my hometown, Middleton near Manchester. Re: Where Have You Just Been?

Our first Fun Day on the field at Salterforth today since we decided to join the organising team. We have a fantastic but very tiring day. If you were there I was the man liberating you from a few coppers at the gate. I was most impressed by the seven year old who ran a fell race this morning and th...

Re: Barnoldswick Forces Memorial Gardens

OK, I'm an Offcumden...I realise that some people may have different ideals/ideas but some of the posts on here regarding such a minor issue have directed me to think that there are some funny folk up here. Bizarre comments to say the least! Thanks Ian, Stanley, Kev and David for keeping a sane view...

Re: World War 1 UK War Bond Postcards

I would hazard a guess that the first tank pic will be dated 1918 perhaps. "Tanks" as we know then didn't make an appearance until 1916, and represent the type that one of found it's way to Letcliffe. The second one displayed is a Whippet, a two man (or is it three?)tyhat were more common ...

I was born just off picture to the left, near Tandle Hill and lived for twenty five years to the right of the photo, on the hill just behind the flats in Rochdale.

Re: Gnr WILFRED ANKER, in from the cold?

I was informed by Terry Denham of the "In From The Cold" project that it usually takes a couple of years for the CWGC to arrange a headstone in these circumstances. I reckon Wilfred should recieving his later this year.

To be honest, when I first saw it I thought it was a very low flying plane. We stepped out of the door to see it again, as I said before white and green. Absolutley no noise.

We saw the lights last night. They went in a south to north direction and were mainly white with a little green in there as well. I know it was friday night and I may have had a little tipple but we both saw them. Very spooky :surprised:

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS

I must admit as being an Offcumden, I really do enjoy looking at these photos. I looked at Kevs link and saw for the first time the old Co-op. A lovely building, what was upstairs?
If it was like my hometown there would have been a ballroom, boardroom and reading rooms.
