I am definitely with you on this one, satnav has a lot answer for. I live near to the entrance to Bracewell Lane, this connects the Town to the A59, it was upgraded to a "B" road in WW2 to allow access from the A59 to the Towns aerospace factories, it is still nevertheless a country lane. ...

I came to terms with being an Englishman 70 odd years ago, born of English parents in Barnoldswick, I am also a Yorkshireman. You may dress this country up in whatever terms you wish but the fact remains that if some of us consider ourselves to be English, then that is what we are, not British, not ...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
On a rather more local note, this town is at present almost completely cut off from elsewhere, the road through Foulridge is closed as is Earby town centre. The authorities are appealing for people not to attempt unnecessary journeys. The local Councils have run out of sandbags. Common sense says &q...

Anonymous sounds a bit right, Trump by name, Trump by nature. The anonymous are good at what they do, mainly because it does not require much physical effort, just a remarkable talent for getting up peoples noses on a regular basis. People like Trump will always get a degree of support because at th...

On the subject of benefits, I recall what an elderly Lady from Scotland said to me a couple of years ago whilst chatting over the garden gate, "You should not expect to dip your hand in the pot, until you have put something in it"!!

My sympathies lie with the poor people of Cumbria and the other areas affected by intense flooding, had this happened in certain other parts of the world, the relief effort would have been global. Maybe its time to cut back on the amount of overseas aid and remember that charity begins at home.

Re: POLITICS CORNER
I would imagine that we are all appalled, and pessimistic, and that many of us are fully aware of past mistakes, that is how this planet has evolved. Blaming each others ancestors for the current situation will not resolve it. I also remember what it like to be bombed having been in Liverpool twice ...

In one way or another, the Middle East has always been a turbulent area since BC, this cannot now be put right without the help and resolve of the many different peoples in that area. I heard and watched many of the arguments for and against this latest development. As a veteran I understand the con...

Cheer up Stanley, some of us have seen this coming for many years. Most of the people on this planet are pacifists at heart, no one wishes to go out and kill, or be killed, service life is based around a sense of duty and the desire to protect our way of life. It is inevitable that there will always...

These last two comments speak volumes and are well thought out before delivery. Like it or not most of us understand where this situation has its roots, but we should not even be thinking this, let alone coming out with it, it is "not PC"! Another dangerous situation is now developing in M...

It will never be just here, and anyone can make known all of the possible causes they wish. This is a new kind of cancer that has been creeping around this planet for some time, and thanks to political correctness and human rights etc, has been allowed to develop into what we have today, and is aide...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
As the aftermath of the despicable events that took place recently in France and Egypt rumble on, and as the blame is already being apportioned to whoever was responsible, both recent and historical, it needs to be remembered that these terrible events took place, and that nothing can now change thi...

Many thanks for that Plaques, we didn't do it for the glory, just because it needed to be done. I was sad not to have been able to attend yesterday and lay a wreath on behalf of the Armed and territorial forces, the Merchant and Civilian services. I became ill after the re dedication of the Memorial...
