Re: ENERGY MATTERS

No they are already cabled, its just tweaking the software on the inverter to work with out of phase AC on the grid rather than the DC coming from the panels in daylight. In the interest of citing sources the youtube video is here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONp8dismI-Q

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Anyone remember the orange knob of the apocalypses (thanks Big Kev) tirade "Trunp digs coal" a while back ?. It sound very hollow now because America is going don the same road we are with renewables. Even the much trumpeted cheap fracking natural gas can't compete with free wind and solar...

Re: CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING

I came across that video last week. I dismissed it as a waste of time. Barely enough power to charge a mobile phone and only when its raining ... The solar panels will at least run the heat pump when the sun is shining.

Re: CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING

Somebody rattled my cage regarding heat pumps. My understanding is that the RHI (renewable heat incentive) government system isn't available for hybrid heating systems. It depends on an inspection of your premises where they evaluate the insulation and estimate how much heat you will need to keep th...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

Being nice helped a lot, the PPP details were waiting for me when I got up. I put them in and the router sprang to life. Pages load like the wind and speedtest reports 37.11 mb/s down and 9.28 up. Happy bunny. :biggrin2:

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

I decided discretion is the better part of valour (or something like that) and sent an apology, looking back on it I was the impatient bugger who deleted the routers credentials and covid is probably making their lives difficult. And I have had 3 years very reasonable mobile use from them. We'll see...

Re: COMPUTERS, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

On a different tack, I recently decided to upgrade and to make it more affordable to change my broadband provider. I'm regretting it. My change over date has arrived (the 19th May) and I've no broadband, this is coming through using my phone as a wifi hotspot. The old provider switched me off prompt...

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

The opinion is turning, looking at it from the governments perspective with a cold {very cold} financial viewpoint it makes sense to kill off care home residents. From a capitalist perspective it could be argued its the responsible thing to do under the present conditions. And yes they are going to ...

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner

My brother and his wife run some care homes and have lost a good number of their residents to Covid19. I've heard the local hospital was turning the residents away when they'd tested positive for the virus. Anecdotal evidence only, I'm not sure whether I buy it. The source has had disagreements with...

I don't often throw my weight around on here but I'm that way out today. I'm hardly a UK government cheerleader but I don't believe expats should be the ones sticking the boot in. Some of us live here.

If you sign up to your browsers native login service - Firefox Sync for Firefox, Google account for Chrome or Chromium and a Microsoft account for Edge it pretty much does what a password manager does and more besides. Technology has overtaken the password manager in my book.

Re: ENERGY MATTERS

Air to air are much cheaper and are quite easy to 'reverse' to make them cool. In the UK cooling would be nice the 2 days in July when it gets warm, the rest of the year its a waste of time. There is no real market for air con for houses so no body bothers importing them. The air source heat pumps h...

On a more down to earth approach, something Germany has been doing for a while and we've just started trialling is using excess wind energy (rather than paying them subsidies to have turbines stood idle when there is low demand ) is to produce hydrogen by electrolysis and then inject it into the nea...
