Re: BEWARE! THE BANKS ARE OUT TO GET YOU!

Whatever the roots of it, the present culture is rotten. I think the biggest cause is the appointment and influence of the 'compensation panels'. Regardless of what they say about 'independence' it is quite obviously a rigged system.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

Moh has it about right in my opinion. Key is to joint it and slow cook. Not a strong meat if fresh and very easy to smother it. Oxtail stew hit the spot, proper cold weather grub. I looked at the number of hunched backs during my walks yesterday and reflected on the advantages of a Crombie overcoat ...

Re: SPRING 2012

Had to clear the yard at 04:30 so the gate would open to let Jack out for his early morning pee. Very wet, heavy snow, if it freezes it will be a bugger. Noticed last night that the glass was falling rapidly, it's on 30.1" this morning. Feels like a softer morning but still freezing even in the...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?

The 'thanks' facility can save a post but show you've read and approved. Personal preference I suppose. Nowt wrong with 'good day' as long as you mean it. What grabbed me was losing my TV signal early in the evening. Funnily enough, Channel 4 survived the longest! Either I have had terminal failure ...

The phrase 'Up Dicky meadow' used to be common. Same meaning as 'up the creek'. Never heard the hat band version.

Re: Racing Pigeons

Pigeon Racing is still alive and well but we no longer see the Federation pigeon carrier parked every weekend in Church Street waiting for pigeons from local lofts to be loaded to be taken to a starting point. I suspect nowhere near the number today. The Queen is reputed to have the biggest pigeon l...

Tiz, quite right. I know some very nice people I would like to protect, no matter how ineffective my efforts might seem. One of the reasons why I congratulated Plugs on his efforts to reduce consumption and be more energy efficient. Not to do so is a policy of despair and I don't do despair!

http://oneguyfrombarlick.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=14&image_id=105 Light snow started down here in the town at 11:00. No weight but constant and here's East Hill Street three hours later. Not serious yet but definitely winter! What a good job they salted the pavements in the town centre....

Re: BEWARE! THE BANKS ARE OUT TO GET YOU!

I suffered hearing an interview on bank bonuses from Angela King, the spokesperson for the banks. She lives in a parallel universe and is totally predictable, never answers the question but spouts one of her platitudinous prepared statements about what a great job the banks do and why we should stop...

Re: SPRING 2012

Morning Maz. Just been talking to Mags in Perth and they have 25C. Mick was asking about Europe and yes, you're right, extremely low temperatures down as far as Italy. I popped back in to note that the wind in Barlick has changed and is a westerly. Significance of this is that if there is going to b...

I agree Brad, there has been a significant rearguard action and this signals to me that the DPP must feel they are on very firm ground because there will have been very significant covert political pressure on him. Good that the trial date is imminent because this needs clearing up. It all contribut...

Re: SPRING 2012

Brad, I have the same problem and just add a capital F or C, I think most normal people will grasp that it's a temperature. Probably about -5C in backyard this morning. Glass hovering around 30.5" so no change there. No snow overnight but it looked threatening to me all day yesterday. I think t...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

The Haggis and Neaps went down well for tea. Apart from my usual odds and sods I got some oxtail from Stewart and slow cooked it all day with spuds, carrots and parsnips. It has sat there all night on the stove and when warmed up today it will be pretty good cold weather fuel. I don't know why but o...
