How did that work then? I always find it difficult to visualise any meaningful correspondence system between Yorkshire and Rome and back, in the 16th Century within a reasonable time scale.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
My hand is up.. and yours should be too! You heard it first on OG when it was launched at the end of January I'll put both hands up and surrender. Guilty as charged. I must be fading faster than I thought. The point you make would not be my main concern. That problem has been flagged up for...

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Hands up anyone who knew about this new thing. I got my tablets delivered today (ordered Wenesday) and being an inveterate label examiner. noticed that beneath the pharmacy name and my address, was (in even smaller print size) a message stating that in future it would be possible to obtain s...

Re: Seen in the News
Camilla hasn't quite mastered this upgrade from 'first floosie' to "Queen" yet, and neither have her loyal subjects. Just seen her at Cheltenham presenting a trophy, where she has no 'presence' at all, and the commoners were showing no awe, or even a little deference. In fact the jockey Ra...

Re: OBITUARIES
Michael Culver has died aged 85.
If you want to feel really old - try this. I had vaguely heard and seen this chap, but only in the context that I remember seeing his father, Roland Culverlive on stage in a play in London in 1973.

There should be an upper limit of 50 years old to be president or Prime Minister Here's a list of what actually happened. I'd never really thought much about that aspect. It's interesting. "Interestingly, the Prime Ministers of the 20th Century were generally much older than the 21st –...

As the monarchy sinks slowly in the West - well done QE II for keeping it on the road, with some dignity, for so long - let's look back to happier times.

There's an 'add on' in Firefox which will translate from any language into English, even foreign character sets such as Cyrillc, Arabic, or Mandarin. Very impressive - you just highlight the text, and click on a link marked A and there it is in English. If the text is contained in a document, you ma...

That would involve a strategic decision with consequences beyond the next election, and their pension and peerage. . Rather flippant, but I would create the mother of all 'iron domes ' over UK and forget about the aircraft carriers. One of them caught fire a few days ago whilst parked up awa...

Re: Seen in the News
Not long ago it was said that The Princess of Wales would appear at Trooping the Colour (that's in June). That was withdrawn after a few days. Then there was another photo of her in a vehicle, and the web said it was her sister not her. Now the official Mothers Day photo which has been the subject o...

Did you read that the catering bill fo r her private jet trip to Australia was over £15,000. Posh snacks Now George Galloway has remembered that he is the member for Rochdale first, and Gaza second. He seemed miffed that he did not 'catch the Speaker's eye' last week - although it was PMQ's and Budg...

Speak to the BBC not me. . .
I'm blaming Kev, for blatantly buying a diesel car when electric ones are easily available. It'll be his fault when the sea flows backwards and Blackpool Tower gets its feet wet.

Bells ringing all over the place here. . . . I saw the Count Basie Orchestra live at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester, and heard Jimmy Rushing (Mr Five by Five) sing. Frankly I found it all a bit boring - especially the longest drum solo ever, during which the entire orchestra left and then...

The deep ocean currents that circle the globe could be changed suddenly by loss of ice at the poles. The BBC warned us very recently that Will the Gulf Stream collapse by 2025? , but when the headline is a question of course, the answer is always no - so I have not lost any sleep over it.

Re: DIALECT AND WORD MEANINGS
Nesh -"there is no synonym" - I'd suggest that another Northern word 'mard' comes fairly close. Stanley said elsewhere - "I am so lucky that I don't get sated by eating the same things all the time" Which brought to mind the noun from 'sated' which is 'satiety'. Rarely se...

Re: POLITICS CORNER
George Galloway took his seat in Parliament yesterday. He had said in advance that David Davis and Jeremy Corbyn would be his supporters for the occasion. In the event both were washing their hair, and couldn't make it, so he had to make do with the father of the house, (who could hardly refuse) and...
