Re: OBITUARIES
The Dowager Duchess of Devonshire has died aged 94. She was at Chatsworth I believe, and was she also at Bolton Abbey. I understand she was a ardent fan of Elvis Presley with a large collection of his records. And she was the last of the Mitford sisters.

Re: Autumn 2014
You might well be right about that Stanley. The weather forcaster on TV said "nothing unusual at the moment". Very damp and drizzely tonight, mist on the hills, but very muggy.

36 hours off line - wow that takes the biscuilt. I have known websites to be off for 6-12 hours, but never so long. Maybe compensation comes to mind ?

Re: Autumn 2014
Heavy showers this evening over in Nelson, but seems a bit dryer now. Milder temperatures tonight I would think. Better day tomorrow, hopefully. But it certainly is strange weather for late September

Re: Where Have You Just Been?
Just been to "Facebook" for several days, maybe it was longer. Sorry, but couldn't think of anywhere else only Nelson town centre, which is rather boring. Its a bit like One Guy From Barlick on the old socialising networking thingy Facebook these days. Anyway have come back to here for a b...

Re: Summer 2014
The thundery weather being experienced in the country at the moment seems to be difficult to pinpoint exactly, as I notice the Beeb weather forcasters keep changing their charts every few hours. They had storms moving from the south overnight (tonight) moving in a more or less straight line, now whe...

Re: Pennine Bus Company Demise
Well folks here it is the final day and the final few hours before Pennine buses of Skipton and Gargrave ceases to be. I understand 19 drivers will lose their jobs after today, and the famous Orange and Black buses will disappear from our roads. The famous buses that are Dennis Dart Plaxton Po...

Re: Spring 2014
Stanley, by the looks of things, ie "your head" you don't need a shave. I remember going into our local barber's shop when I was nowt but a kid. A bald headed bloke came in. The barber looked at the chap and said "how much do you want taking of," the bald chap said "oh just ...

Re: Pennine Bus Company Demise
Well said David. Yes, I know you have worked hard over the years and got things done. I expect things will get sorted out, in one way or another, after Pennine have gone. I do feel sorry for those bus drvers, though. Lets hope they can get driving for other companies. Maybe Transdev will take on som...

Re: Pennine Bus Company Demise
So maybe we should "not" blame Transdev too much, although they do run buses in the same areas as Pennine and on the same routes, apart from to Gargrave and Settle. Who, then, will take over these routes that Pennine leave behind - maybe Transdev, D& G, or another small company called ...

Pennine Bus Company Demise
With the sad demise of Pennine buses of Skipton & Gargrave, what do OGFB members think of this great loss of this well-respected local bus company which began back in the 1920s. Do you think Transdev B & P have too much power over other smaller bus companies and are pushing them out of the t...

Re: Where Have You Just Been?
I have been over to Barlick today and visited my favourite cafe - the one on the square! The well-known Mr Mitchell came in to the cafe after finishing his long stint on his market stall. One or two other familiar faces popped in for refreshments. Also browsed around the Pendle Hospice charity shop ...

Re: OBITUARIES
Very shocked to hear about the sudden death of Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT union, at the age of 52. He stood up to the employers and helped his union members in many an industrial battle since 2002. It will be very difficult indeed to find someone else like Bob. RIP Bob Crow.

Re: Winter 2013
Funny weather here in Nelson today, hail showers in the afternoon, rainy and windy during the evening, then heavy showers for late evening and winds easing down. Very topsy turvey weather. Better for tomorrow, then wet and windy again on Sunday. Is the jet stream moving back again, I wonder? :surpri...

Re: Winter 2013
Yes, I have also heard that said by the weather forcasters, both yesterday and today. They say that the weather will not be as bad next week, less stormy, but still some rain about, though not as heavy, and a bit milder by Tuesday. I will believe "it" when I see it.

Sounds great afternoon tea Sue and up near Owd Betts, a place I remember so well. Have not, as yet, been to Healey Dell but I believe it's an interesting place. I remember Wolstenholme quite well, Black Pits chimney, and Norden. Must have another visit there soon.

Re: Winter 2013
There was some bad weather conditions in Nelson early to late afternoon with rain, hail and sleet, combined with a colder, blustery wind. Dryer this evening, but more rough, possibly Wintry weather for tomorrow and next week. Batten down the hatches.
