So there is a bit of loss of richness of colour.

Seems reasonable.

Problem with modern phones is that they take such hi-res memory hungry photos that it depends on software to reduce them down to something ones storage or transmission can cope with, Editing photos may be easier in fast computers now, but still takes time approaching the dev and print editing of the past to get a decent pic, especially one that can accomodate the perspective one is trying to throw up.
