Exactly the same principle at work in cleaning machinery Ian. If you're cleaning it you are inspecting it. See 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values' by Mr Pirsig. He would have been right behind you wiping those joints!

Connected by Xmas? That's ridiculous Kev. Everyone's cutting costs and that means staff. No way to run a business.....

My thoughts too. I was under pressure to get the pipe in and inspected before the end of July. It's a different department who do the connection so it seems they don't talk to each other.

Isn't that so often the case with these big corporations. Very depressing when you are trying to get things done. Only sis months until Xmas......

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
Made a start putting the flags back down but didn't have enough sand and cement. The last one I put in is half inch lower as it's just sat on the dirt, it's there so P doesn't trip over the hole. I'll sort it on Thursday when I finish my shift rotation and have bought some more sand and cement.

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
Got the concrete in today, fortunately it didn't rain, it's setting up nicely. I should be able to shift the last bit of excess fill onto it tomorrow so I can get the last of the flags back down, there's always some left over

But you'll not be completely relaxed until it is commissioned. Or at least I wouldn't be!

What I find daft is UU were here a couple of weeks ago to do a new connection a few doors down, they're back this week doing another...

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
Modern industrial management doesn't encourage multi-tasking Kev. It likes specialisation. de-skilling and defined targets. Hard to fit common sense into that structure!

I noticed the other day that the A56 through Thornton in Craven has had new surface dressing through the village. One of the utilities has already dug a hole through it near the junction with Cam Lane.

Sounds about right, none of them talk to each other.

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
Got the last of the flags down, unfortunately there have been a couple of broken ones but I can live with that. Me and P have bagged up the excess fill, fortunately my neighbour is terracing his garden and needs some

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
Looks OK to me Kev. You can never get all the fill back in regardless of how big the hole is.

Gave everything a rinse off with the hosepipe this morning, including the car. A nice clean surface for the birds to poop all over.

Two trips to the recycling centre and the bags are all gone, neighbour doesn't need it now, looks a bit tidier
Got the 'official' email today telling me it had been handed over to the connection department.

Re: Miscellaneous DIY Projects (or bits of jobs)
Internal pipework and stoptap are in, along with a drain off at the lowest point. The other end of the copper pipe is near the old stoptap that's being blanked off. I'll box it in with an access door, it'll be behind the microwave but I'd better make the effort
Just need to wait several more weeks for United Utilities to connect me up to the main in the back Street now.
