I thought of you David when I did the selfie, Jowls and a lived in face....
You all laugh when I talk about the mystical properties of cutting my hair off. But a spooky thing happened. As I cut my hair the thermostat packed up and I had no heating... I didn't realise for about an hour, got in touch with BG and after the usual interval of repeated talks and waits I was offered an appointment for 18 December. I took the lady to task over this and got a better offer, sometime tomorrow between 8AM and 6PM. When they come they won't have a thermostat and so that will require a return visit.
I have lit the stove in the front room and put the small oven on low. That will keep the kitchen warm. The stove will warm the rest of the house except for the shed which will be cold tomorrow morning!
What a good job I had a stove, kindling and coal.... :biggrin2:
Just seen your post Kev. So do I.....

David, I agree......

Laguna beach 40 years ago.
Update on heating.... No problems about the evening, the stove drew well because I cleaned the flue in Spring and so I had a warm comfortable evening and then to bed. In the early hours I went for my customary trot to the bathroom for a pee and absent mindedly hit the thermostat in frustration as I passed it, the bloody heating came on! Still on as I write. I have left the appointment in place because the thermostat is obviously faulty, after 25 years of service it doesn't owe us anything and under my contract it's a free replacement.
The weather, it was as forecast, a sunny afternoon but cold. At 20:00 we had a light breeze and it was cold, there had been a light shower. This morning it's overcast and cold, the flags are damp, we have had a recent shower We have a frost at the moment. The glass is down on 998mb. The forecast is for a cloudy day but dry. The SW wind is light to moderate and gives us a high of 7C and a low of 3C. We have a wind chill of -5C at the moment but this rapidly improves to -2C for most of the day. The outlook is for colder, more unsettled weather and heavy rain forecast for Tuesday.

Yesterday was generally cloudy and it went dark early. By 20:00 it was raining and first thing this morning we had rain and a light wind, it hasn't changed since. The glass is down on 988mb and still falling. The forecast is for rain all day. The wind is WNW for most of the day and is brisk, gusting to 35mph giving a high of 5C and a low of 1C with a chill of -5C at times, it will feel below freezing all day. The six day outlook is for similar cold unsettled weather. Deep Joy, it's December!

Same here Gloria, still wet and windy with very heavy cloud. I'm not even thinking about going out. I'm making a beef stew with a pound and a half of Skirt...... That seems a far better thing to do.

Normal weather for December. Would not like to be in Ireland though.
Managed to burn out some wiring on a fan heater ( think I have got through three over the past couple of years - all freebies), it took out a daisy chain of 13amp fuses as I had it on a set of extension leads and wall doublers, didnt take the main fuse though, so I have run out of replacement fuses until I can find the tobacco tin that has the remaining excess pile in it. Fished out another donated to me (slightly damaged) fan heater, have to use a spanner to turn the speed setting but thats ok.

Yesterday wasn't as windy as they predicted and a 15 minute sit on the bench on bookie watch was quite pleasant as I was well wrapped up. At 20:00 it was calm, clouded and very cold. First thing this morning it's still the same. The glass rose to 1013mb but has now dropped back to 1008mb. The forecast is for rain and sleet this morning and lighter rain for the rest of the day. The wind starts in the south but works its way into the west by this evening. It is brisk, gusting to 30mph giving a high of 5C and a low of 0C with a -5C chill for most of the day. This means it will feel below zero all day. We have a yellow warning for wind sleet and snow for Tuesday and the rest of the week will be calmer but cold and unsettled. I think It's winter....
Later at 05:30. The glass is falling very quickly and is down on 1006mb.

The sun came out at 14:30 and we had blue skies so I went for a short walk. Inside the first 200 yards the sky was black and threatening to the North and we had a heavy hail shower. That turned to rain as I plodded on and for the last 200 yards was hail again. Pennine weather. Dontcha love it!

Yesterday afternoon finished with steady rain. At 20:00 it was still raining. The skies were largely clear during the night but first thing this morning it's calm cold and dry. The glass is on 999mb and rising. The forecast is for it to be cloudy and relatively quiet and dry until 10:00 when it starts to rain and the wind begins to rise. We have Yellow warnings for Ice, Snow and Wind. The southerly wind is light but by 10:00 is strong and gusting to 45mph giving a high of 4C and a low of 2C with a chill of -7C in the strongest winds. The outlook is for less severe weather but wet and broken. Looks like some classic staying in days coming up!

I got up from second sleep and found it was dry so I grabbed my chance for a walk into Town Square for some veggie shopping and and ten minutes bookie watch. I heard the Lloyd's Bank mobile lady announcing from the steps that they had no cash, evidence of deep joy in the queue which was quite long. the wind is bitter and at that moment it started snowing, time to retreat to the warmth of my kitchen.
One more thing, I caught the streetsweeper and so all three Xmas boxes have been disbursed. Nice! I feel virtuous.

At 20:00 last night it was still breezy and there was a hint of rain on the wind. This morning it's wet and windy and the glass is down on 965mb. (I know my barometer exaggerates at very low values but even so, this is a very deep depression.) I've just checked and it's not a long way out, the pressure at Ronaldsway on the IoM is 963mb and falling. The forecast is simple, heavy rain all day. The mainly SW wind is brisk and gusts to 30mph. The high is 5C and the low 3C with a -6C chill at the moment, it will feel like freezing all day. The outlook is slightly dryer for two days, but wet on Saturday, unsettled weather.

Later, I note from the shipping forecast that Ronaldsway is now reporting 968mb. That makes my 965mb most likely a correct reading as there is usually a 3 or 4mb difference because of the difference in altitude.
It's a very low value....
