Winter Solstice has arrived despite Autumn having an early go! It's now officially Winter so it can now get proper cold!

We are all still here so the Mayans and Nostradamus were wrong, enjoy the Winter.

Remember there is no such thing as bad weather only inappropriate clothing

The rain slacked off during the morning but returned after dinner and I think it hasn't stopped since. Glass dropped below 29" but has now risen to 29.1" Ground sodden and reports that Tiz has got rising damp again..... Good luck with it!
Later, after walking down to the butchers. Quite a mild morning and not raining but the ground is sodden. The glass is climbing quite fast... dryer and colder?

Long way to go yet Eileen! Rain on and off yesterday and glass is at 29.2" this morning. Gale warnings in all areas up to force 11 except for Tyne, Humber and Trafalgar. For once, the North sea have the calmest waters!
PS. 06:00, just been out in the backyard and its raining cold rain again! It was just starting at 05:00 when I went out with Jack but is now steady cold rain.... Deep Joy!

It rained all day yesterday.... Gale warnings in all areas bar two again this morning. A big low pressure is centred over the Irish sea and is going to track slowly eastwards across us over Xmas. A re-run of the last five days. The glass is falling and has got down to 28.8", it will go lower. So, we shall have a respite today perhaps as it passes over but more rain to come. Good luck Mr and Mrs Tiz!

Melting. Blast furnace conditions. 42C today.
Feel a bit mean because I had to empty the bird bath due to a swarm of wasps.

No problems with heat or wasps here Maz. Jack and I have had our walk. Wet underfoot but no rain apart from the odd spatter but a lot of wind. It's coming out of the South so isn't cold, just blustery. Things could be a lot worse!

No signs of Winter at the moment. More rain to come tomorrow afternoon and for rest of the week - on and off. Could turn a bit colder for Boxing Day. And no the world did not come to an end. Probably not really up to the Mayans anyway - more likely its up to the bearded chap up in heaven - no not St Peter !! :laugh5:

Two dry walks yesterday. Dry at the moment but glass is on 29". Let's see what we are in for today.... Janet was telling me that weather in Perth is funny, the winds they are getting are high humidity instead of being bone dry....Mind you, I think it's an El Nino year.....

Yes, we have survived yesterday's 42C and been blessed with 25C today, no rain as promised but the relieve is much appreciated.
Christmas Day will be 26C and dry, :worship: (a bow to the weaather gods)

Not a bad day in Barlick yesterday, bit gloomy and occasional light rain but nothing to write home about. Glass was falling all day and is at 28.7" this morning but at the moment it's dry and appears to have been so all night. No doubt some rain will come in eventually but we are blessed because we are on the watershed and we don't get other people's water.....

A bit showery today, but dryer this evening. More rain later tomorrow and not quite as mild.

It dried up a bit yesterday but was nothing special. Quiet Barlick Xmas weather. Glass fell but has risen again to 29". Damp outside but not raining so I suppose we'll have another quiet day.

Nice to know you were comfortable Maz. Jack and I have just had a dry walk round the town. No bad weather and I suppose about 4C with very l,ittle breeze. The glass is showing signs of struggling upwards so it's not looking too bad.

Dry walks with a cold wind but by 15:00 we had stair rod cold rain. The glass dropped at the same time. It's at 28.9" at the moment and dry outside but a blustery cold wind.
Back from our walk at 07:30. Dry and the wind has dropped. Not very cold so things could be worse! Glass is trying to rise but that's normal first thing in the morning. The Met Office tell us that we have a chance of rain around dinnertime and the same tomorrow with more chance of rain. Nothing severe so things could be the worse.

We had a gloomy day till dinnertime after the rain stopped. This morning looks like a rerun, It was raining stair rods at 05:00 and though it has eased slightly it's still raining as I write. The glass is on 29.3" but that doesn't tell me a lot other than no major change about. The Met Office tell us that we are going to have wind today, more severe as you go North so the bottom line is that it's not going to be a good day out there. It looks as though 2012 is going to be the heaviest rainfall 'since records began'. No surprise there then.....
10:00. We're back from the butcher's and all warm and cosy. The rain stopped thank goodness but there's a cold wind. I've decided it might be a good writing day as I finished a book yesterday and it's a good point to break off from le Carre and do something useful!

A re-run of yesterday. Siling down with rain at 05:30 and not a lot better now. Glass is down slightly at 28.9" but not a lot of movement. No sign of any change from the wet spell and little doubt that 2012 will be the wettest year on record. Wendy will have her wellies on this morning!

The wimp! Jack doesn't mind the rain and enjoys a good rub down (particularly the inside of his ears) when we get back in. Luckily the rain eased as we went out shortly after 07:00 and it wasn't too bad but I had full wet weather gear on, wellies, over-trousers the Barbour and a good fur felt Christie's trilby with a broad brim that acts like an umbrella. There has been a lot of rain during the night, ground is beyond sodden, it has standing water on it. I can't remember seeing so much water coming over the weir in Butts for the last 30 years. There is so much that it isn't even hitting the front of the dam and breaking i9nto foam. It's coming over solid, brown and about a foot deep, the beck below is getting a good clean out! We are so lucky that we have good drainage and the Council looks after the watercourses. On the whole, a good writing day!
By the way, not much wind as yet and it's not cold.
