Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Yesterday was a perfect day. I noted that the Cherry Tree at the Catholic Church is loaded with blossom and the weather is perfect for a good set. At 20:30 it was clear, mild and calm. First thing this morning it was calm, the sky was slightly milky but no real overcast, lovely full moon. We had a good walk on a mild morning, very quiet, everyone taking advantage of the Easter Break.... The glass is steady and up slightly at 1028mb. The forecast is for full sun all day and no rain. The constant light east wind tends to the south and we can expect a high of 20C and a low of 8C. Negligible wind chill. Probably today and tomorrow are the best days we'll have for a while. The outlook is for very slow deterioration to the seasonal norm with a hint of a chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday.....

Yesterday was lovely.... at 20:30 it was calm, mild and dry with a milky sky. This morning first thing it was still calm and mild with a clear sky and a brilliant moon, still the same now. The glass was falling very slowly yesterday and is on 1021mb. The forecast is a re-run of yesterday, full sun when we get daylight. The wind is starting to tend more towards the south, it will be light all day and even back to SSW at times. The high will be 20C and the low 8C with only minimal wind chill. The outlook is for very similar wether for the next five days, the main feature is that the wind continues to back into the west more and more and there could be some rain later in the week but no sign of colder weather, the high is in the teens all week. Could be growy Wendy!
06:30. A very pleasant walk on a calm, quiet morning with the setting moon hanging in the sky and the first low sun coming in from the East. Mild and lots of bird song. No Crombie, just a fleecy top shirt. This is a perfect April morning.....

Yesterday afternoon was even balmier, shirt sleeve walk in the afternoon. At 21:00 it was calm, dry and mild with an almost clear sky. This morning it's the same but clearer. The glass has fallen to 1007mb. The forecast is for a re-run of yesterday, full sun all day. The light mainly SE wind will give a high of 20C and a low of 9C with negligible wind chill. During the next week the weather settles back into a more seasonable pattern with lower temperatures, more cloud and a hint of rain. We need the rain!
05:45. Another perfect walk, just a fleecy shirt, no Crombie. Calm, clear, mild and a big setting moon. What's not to like!
The LR Discovery with the flat tyre is still sat in Butts... Very strange but not my problem! Very quiet round the town, the last day of the holiday. At least one person had a 'good night out', pools of vomit outside Gisburn Road Primary School.....

Another good day yesterday. At 21:00 we had a light breeze, partial overcast and it was mild. First thing this morning it was clear, still a light wind and mild and dry. Just looked out and it it still the same but coming light. The glass is down to 987mb. The forecast is that in spite of the falling glass we could have a last crack at fine weather. The forecast is for a slightly more cloudy day but still good sunny periods especially this afternoon. The constant E or ENE wind starts light but becomes moderate giving a high of 18C and a low of 8C with a wind chill of as much as -4C in mid afternoon, never less than -2C. The outlook from today is for a cooling trend with more cloud and some rain expected every day. By Friday the west wind will be in charge again and we can expect normal Atlantic weather. Wendy's grass will start growing again!
06:05. A very pleasant walk on a mild morning with high scattered cloud obscuring the setting moon. Plenty of clear sky in the East. We shall see today whether we have west coast or east coast weather. At the moment it looks promising......

Last of the summer days, at 21:00 it was fresher but still dry. First thing this morning we had a fresh breeze and thin high cloud but it was dry. We've had our walk and it hasn't changed except that thicker cloud is coming in from the SE. The glass is down again at a shade over 988mb. The forecast is for a dry day with sunny spells. The light east wind soon becomes moderate and later in the day backs into the SSW, a sign of change. The high will be 17C and the low of 6C with a -2C wind chill most of the day. More chance of rain on a cooler day tomorrow. Wendy's grass stands a chance! We certainly need some rain, it's very dry hence the moor fires.....

My grass started to grow over the warm weekend! I'm already worrying about the ponies having too much, they are in a restricted area now so they should eat it down in a couple of days.

Very welcome significant rain at teatime. At 21:00 it was overcast breezy and still light rain on the wind. First thing this morning it was overcast, cool and breezy but dry, still dry now and less wind. The glass continued to fall slowly yesterday but during the night it started to rise and is now on 990mb. The forecast is for a mixed overcast morning and scattered showers, some heavy, coming in for the rest of the day. The wind is light to moderate SSE and gives a high of 13C and a low of 6C with a -2C wind chill all day. The outlook is for similar weather and a shade cooler.
06:15. Back after a pleasant walk on a mild morning. It's overcast with broken cloud underlit by low sun from the East giving a rosy light. Everything looks fresher and greener after that shower. I think they have given us east coast wind when it is west coast, it's more SSW than SSE. A good growy morning, nothing to complain about!

The rain came in as forecast at teatime yesterday and with a bang! We had a sharp thunderstorm directly over the town. At 20:30 we had overcast, a light breeze and rain. It was clear during the night and is the same this morning, dry and cooler. The glass is still rising very slowly and is on 998mb. The forecast is for it to be dry and clear until midday when the rain will return and we shall have a showery end to the day. The wind is from the South mainly and will strengthen during the middle of the day giving a high of 12C and a low of 5C the wind chill will be -4C for most of the day. The outlook is cooler and wet tomorrow, after that it settles to much like today for the foreseeable future. Less rain after Sunday.
06:45. We had a Crombie walk this morning, the brisk breeze plus a -4C wind chill made my fleecy shirt under the Crombie just about right. But it's dry and light, two bonuses! Low sun coming in from the East. Things could be worse but more rain later.....

Its 18-20C here today, quite bright with 50% chance of rain (probably just a shower or two). Still in short sleeves. Received my electricity bill this week, I am in credit , nearly $200, - I knew they were charging me too much - but at least it means I will be able to put my heater on over winter without having to worry.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

Exactly right Tiz, clear signs yesterday that we are in for an Atlantic Low pressure system today. At 20:30 it was overcast breezy and light rain. First thing this morning we had an angry broken sky with clear patches and a breeze, cooler. Two hours later the wind is rising, we have 100% overcast and steady light rain. The glass has fallen to 987mb and this looks like the influence of storm Hannah. The forecast is dire, rain all day! The wind will soon be a constant strong WNW giving a high of 8C and a low of 5C gusting to at least 40mph. The wind chill will be as much as -5C all day depending on the wind strength. A day for staying indoors if you can.
06:00. I donned full waterproof gear when I went out at just before 05:30 and at first this seemed to be overkill because the wind was light as was the rain but as we went round Valley Gardens the wind rose and the rain became heavier. Never serious but a nasty morning.
I commented earlier about the felling of five large trees in the Gardens and I am happy to report that six or seven young trees have been well planted with two large stakes apiece. I hope the vandals leave them alone....
The Discovery with the flat tyre still sits at the top of Butts.... As we got back home I noted that what had been broken cloud coming in from the SW is now solid dark grey overcast.

Yesterday was a lot better than the forecast. We had sunny spells in the afternoon but at 20:30 it was overcast and raining again. First thing this morning it was calm, clear, dry and cold. It's still like that and the glass has leapt up to 1011mb and is still rising, Hannah is moving fast and has passed. The forecast is for dry bright overcast with sunny spells. The mainly Northerly wind will be constant and light giving a high of 14C and a low of 4C with a light chill of -1C. This is the pattern for the next four or five days.....
05:50. A cool walk under a clear sky with a waning crescent moon. Almost calm, steaming breath but a nice walk..... A lot better than yesterday!

Yesterday afternoon was very acceptable, sun, mild and a light breeze. At 20:30 the cloud was breaking and it was mild. First thing this morning we had a clear sky light breeze and it was cool, same now but calm and a milky sky. The glass has risen to 1021mb. The forecast is for another dry bright day. The constant light to moderate SSE wind gives a high of 13C and a l,ow of 5C with a -2C wind chill as the wind strengthens slightly during the day. Another very acceptable day.
06:10. Back after a quiet walk on a calm, dry and cool morning. When we set off there was a slight mist and now we are back home it is thicker, in Met office terms, a fog. I suspect that Wendy will have a view of a sea of white in the valleys from her perch at Faulkner Towers.

Lovely day and at 20:00 it was calm, mild and dry. This morning first thing it was clear, cool and calm and is the same now. The glass is rock steady on 1021mb. The forecast is for a foggy start than clearing up and a bright dry day. The very light ENE wind shifts into the South by 09:00 and gives a high of 15C and a low of 9C with a -1 wind chill all day. Sue is right, this will perhaps be the best day of the week. Polling day looks OK and the weather will not affect the turnout. Cooler later this week, possible rain on Friday.
06:00. Back from a pleasant walk on a cool, dry and foggy morning. The renovation of the Hospice shop is going well, lots of mess and rubbish, a sure sign the plasterers have been at work!

Boring I know but another good day yesterday. at 20:30 it was mild, calm and dry. Same first thing this morning but no stars. The glass has fallen to 1015mb. The forecast is for an overcast day with an occasional light shower. The constant westerly wind is very light but increases slightly this evening giving us a high of 12C and a low of 5C. This lower temperature is mitigated by the lower wind chill, it will not feel cold at any time. A quiet day and the outlook is for similar, no nasties in sight!

Another very pleasant day yesterday despite being theoretically colder, the light winds didn't chill us and any rain was very light. At 20:30 we had 50% cloud cover, a light breeze and it was dry and mild. It was the same first thing this morning and we have already had our morning walk round Valley gardens, no complaints at all, a very pleasant morning. The glass is down a bit at a shade under 1010mb. The forecast is for a cooler, more overcast day and the thicker cloud is more likely to result in a shower. The constant light to moderate wind becomes northerly very soon this morning and gives us a high of 11C and a low of 4C with a wind chill of -2C all day. Cooler but still relatively mild weather. Noticeable yesterday as the sun opened the flowers on the Dandelions and Daisies how many wild flowers there are on the Green. The trees are looking good, the birds are very active, the season is being very kind to them. All in all, nothing at all to complain about!

Despite the Met Office telling us how cold it is yesterday was another very pleasant day for the time of year, not as much rain as forecast. At 20:30 we had 50%overcast, it was calm and raining. First thing this morning it was calm, cool and dry with 100% overcast, it's still the same now.... The glass is up a shade on 1011mb. The forecast is for an overcast day with frequent showers. The constant ENE wind is light and gives a high of 8C and a low of 0C. The wind chill starts at -3C and at the end of the day is -1C. A cooler day and if the recent pattern holds there will be less rain that forecast. Either way, it's not too bad, we are 500 ft up in the Pennines and this makes a lot of difference as Wendy observed yesterday. The old farmers always said that we can't expect to be warm and frost free until the second week in June, they called it Grass Day. This still holds true.
The outlook is for a gradual warming of the weather after today but more rain......
06:30. A damp walk to the butcher's. 100% overcast, calm and raining steadily. This is good! Just what we need at this time of year, relatively warm weather and gentle rain so don't complain about it being cold and wet! Look on the bright side!
