We've got 16C outside Cathy and 21C in workshop so both are comfortable but obviously will be warmer later.

That prompted me to look out of the window Wendy and it's raining down here in the town as well. My wildflowers will be loving this!

It was 28 degrees here in Gravesend, Kent at 10 this morning. We're off to visit friends in Whitstable today, it's going to be chaos on the roads I reckon.

I can;t quote the source for this, but I wouldn't be surprised. OK it will be hot - but 'national emergency' I don't think so`.

"It is the first time a red heat warning has been issued for parts of the UK, although the extreme heat warning system was only introduced in 2021. Downing Street said the alert was being treated as a national emergency."

I'm with Wendy, it was quite pleasant and a nice breeze. Not hot during the night, I slept well. I agree with David also, not a national emergency up here.....
Yesterday the rain was fleeting but no doubt good for the plants. At 20:00 we had low sun coming in under the overcast. First thing this morning we have a calm, dry, warm morning under a mainly clear sky but some wispy high cloud. the glass is down a touch on 1017mb and the forecast is of course for a sunny hot day. The wind is light and variable giving a high of 31C and a low of 21C tonight with no wind chill. The outlook is for 35C tomorrow and then the rest of the week is straight 18C. Barlick Wakes Week weather.... :biggrin2:

I sat in the shade of the trees in Town Square for an hour and never broke a sweat. A very nice breeze tempering the heat. But once you stepped out of the shade.....100F!

That would be lovely down here in the tropic of Kent. Lots of brown grass and dead things.

Still out here. The rain seems to be skirting us, unless it's evaporating before it hits the ground.

Just looked. The car is showing 39C, On the day of the record three years ago it got to 40C.

Here indoors it's just 27.5 C. House is well insulated I'd say.

PS Just saw on TV, the weather measuring station at the Botanical Gardens where the record was set in 2019. Seems we won't know if it's a new record until 10.00am tomorrow as it is taken as the peak in the last 24 hours from that time each day. I think the record will go - I don't recall it being this hot in 2019.

Need to keep a sense of proportion still though - I only recently changed from the Autumn weight 9.0 Tog duvet, to the Summer 4.5 Tog one.

I thought I felt a spit of rain at about 16:00 but never saw any evidence apart from that small shower we had in the morning. I see from the satellite pics that there is rain trying to get in from the west and it looks as though Pater down in the West may have seen some. In 1932 this sort of weather brought a good shower on Whitemoor and caused the flood.... :biggrin2:
Yesterday it was hot and today will be hotter. At 20:00 it was overcast and low sun was striking in underneath. This morning its calm warm and overcast outside, The glass is down at 1012mb and falling. The forecast is for a similar day to yesterday, cloudy in the evening and late sun around 21:00. Our saviour today could well be the wind which is SE until noon and tending to the west after that, always moderate and it gives a high of 36C but a low of 16C tonight which is a clue to what is happening. The Atlantic weather is breaking in later today and it shows in the outlook, we go back to 20C being a warm day tomorrow and then dropping even further to an Arctic 18C. It looks as though normal service is being resumed....

The sky has cleared and the angry clouds have retreated. The washing I put out in the dark two hours ago is almost dry!
A bit later. I've just noted that the glass is falling quite quickly.....
