I have been for a walk and had a sit opposite the bookies. Very pleasant in the shade of the trees but extremely hot in the sun. I'm back in the relative cool of the house.... I shan't be doing a lot for the rest of the day.

Yesterday was hot and today will be cooler but we are being warned that next Sunday and Monday will be even hotter. The forecast was accurate, by 20:00 we had 100% heavy cloud cover. This morning first thing it was calm, warm and totally overcast. The glass has fallen slightly again to 1017mb and the forecast is for a cloudy day. The constant WSW wind is light becoming moderate and gives us a high of 20C, a low of 12C and a wind chill of -3C later. The outlook is for a couple of cooler days and then the temperature starts to climb into the weekend and the forecast at present is for a high of 27C next Sunday.

Yes, I meant to mention that and commiserate with hayfever sufferers.
I also see that there is talk of near 40C temperatures next weekend. That will not be us in the North but even so it's going to be warm!

There are a couple of crazy people going to Kent for the weekend, I will be staying in the shade and drinking plenty of water. Thankfully I have aircon in the car.

The Met Office have extended the 'hot weather warning' into Monday for most of England.

I was going to comment earlier that it looked as though it could rain but then thought "Don't be so silly!" I've just been out and we have a few large drops of rain.... Remember that 90 years ago today Barlick was surveying the damage caused by the July Flood!

Yesterday was grey but the weather itself was quite acceptable. At 20:00 some late sun broke through. First thing this morning we had a light breeze, it was dry and we have a broken overcast. It's still the same. The glass is rock steady on 1017mb and again we have a very high pollen count forecast. The forecast is for a day with lots of sun despite the cloud. The constant WNW wind is light to moderate and gives a high of 18C, a low of 12C and a wind chill in the afternoon of as much as -3C. The outlook is for two days similar to today and then an amber heat warning for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Definitely Barlick summer. (It is after all Wakes Week.....
I've just reposted this, my earlier post seems to have dropped off the cliff.
I have had a walk and a sit with a bag of crisps opposite the bookies. That wind soon cools you down if the sun goes behind a cloud!

We have had the sitting highs before, but the recent one/s have been such that the north to south rotation of the wind has been sitting accross the UK with winds mainly blowing back from the south but from a northerly origination and mainly east to west or west to east, with a large central trail of occluded fronts which have dumped any rain either mid atlantic, over Ireland or just into the Scottish Highlands.

Quite right Kev. Yesterday was quite pleasant and at 20:00 we had full sun. This morning we have a calm dry morning with very light overcast, The glass is rock solid on 1017mb. The pollen count is down slightly and the forecast is that the cloud will gradually give way to sunny spells. Chance of a light shower mid-afternoon. The mainly WNW wind will become constant giving a high of 17C and a low of 12C with a chill of -3C at times. Another coolish day tomorrow and then we start to climb into the weekend which will be hot......

Yesterday we had an overcast afternoon and then late sun after 20:00. First thing this morning it was dry and cool with a light breeze under an overcast sky. The glass is up slightly on 1020mb and the forecast is for an overcast start until later this morning followed by sunny intervals and occasional light showers for the rest of the day. The constant moderate WSW wind changes to WNW late this afternoon and gives a high of 17C, a low of 9C with up to -3C chill. You know the outlook, starts getting warmer tomorrow and becomes seriously hot over the weekend. Drink plenty of water, keep out of direct sunlight and do as little as possible!

Notice how the Pennines make a slightly cooler incursion into the red zone. Wendy will get the full benefit because she is 500ft higher than us.
Yesterday was another cloudy day with late sun at 20:00. First thing this morning was calm, clear and dry. Now we have early full sun. The glass is up a touch on 1021mb. The forecast is full sun all day. The constant west wind is light and gives us a high of 21C and a low of 14C with negligible wind chill. You know what the outlook is, anything up to close to 40C for the next four days. Drink plenty, keep out of the sun and do as little as possible.

At the moment the sky is clear, we have full sun and the temperature is rising. It's around 15C already. Our high will be 21C but then the real problems start.

As yet it's only 11C up here with a hazy sky. I'm so relieved that I don't have ponies or dogs to worry about over the next few days!
At least 2 of my friends have shared a 'gone viral" Facebook post, supposedly from someone whose friend is an unnamed vet, warning people not to give ice cubes to dogs as it kills them by raising their temperature. A quick fact check shows this to be completely untrue, most animal charities recommend putting ice cubes in dog's water dishes and giving them frozen treats to lick. I can never understand why otherwise intelligent people don't check facts before spreading rubbish like this.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Funnily enough I was told about ice cubes being death to dogs by a mate of mine yesterday. When I corrected him he was amazed, it was so deeply embedded in his mind.
Yesterday was a nice day and the breeze was just right for tempering the heat. At 20:00 we had low sun coming in under overcast and first thing this morning it was calm, a mostly clear sky with scattered high cloud and a good moon. It's still the same. The glass is steady in 1021mb. The forecast is for an overcast day with a light variable wind starting in the east and finishing in the west giving a high of 28C and a low of 17C with up to -2C chill in the afternoon. It sounds as though that breeze will temper the heat again.... The outlook is for continuing hot weather all week but we could hit 33C on Tuesday. We will not die but 18C for the rest of the week will feel much better!
05:00. We've had a light shower of rain.
