Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Yesterday was a rerun of the day before, quiet, dry and dull because of a heavy overcast. At 20;00 it was calm, dry, cool and overcast. It was the same first thing this morning and hasn't changed. The glass is down a shade on 1028mb. The forecast is for a dull, dry overcast day. The wind is a light westerly giving us a high of 5C and a low of 1C with a -2C chill at most. This is not exciting weather but is very acceptable for late January. The outlook remains the same for the next week, similar, if slightly warmer, weather.

We have yet another rerun.... The only difference is that it will be a bit colder. The glass is steady on 1029mb and the forecast is for a misty start and then overcast but dry all day. The light westerly wind gives us a high of 3C and a low of 2C with a -4C chill. The net effect is it will feel like sub-zero all day so wrap up warm. The outlook is for the same overcast weather but slightly warmer.

It's getting boring..... We had another rerun yesterday, dry, dull overcast weather, the only virtue is if you think what January could be doing to us. (It's beginning to look like the driest January in recorded memory.) At 20:00 it was cool, calm, dry and overcast. Same this morning and no change since. The glass is rock steady on 1027mb. The forecast is once more, misty at first them overcast but dry all day. The moderate WSW wind gusts to 35mph later this afternoon. The high is 7C and the low is 6C but with a -5C chill later when the wind rises. The outlook is unchanged, more of the same. We should be grateful, it could be far worse!

The only change yesterday was that it ended with a bit more wind and a bit of light rain at 20:00. First thing this morning it was the same, light rain and we still have that now. The glass has fallen to 1017mb, the first significant movement for days. The forecast is cloudy but dry after this morning's light rain. The West wind is moderate and gusty at first. It give a high of 8C and a low of 3C with a -4C chill early in the day. The six day outlook is for similar temperatures and more possibility of rain. Still very kind weather for late January!

Yesterday was bright and sunny but a cold wind. At 20:00 it was calm, dry mild and overcast. It's the same this morning and the glass is rising again, on 1029mb. The forecast is for a dry cloudy day with light rain coming in this evening. The wind is a constant WSW gradually strengthening throughout the day, by this evening it will be gusting to almost 40mph. The high will be 8C and the low 7C with a -4C chill later. The six day outlook is for similar weather, no real winter in sight. This is very good!

I've been for my walk, bright and dry but that's a very cold wind.
These two caught my eye, the new lamp on the Jubilee Fountain and the latest offering from the Barlick Yarn Fairies; 'Ice and Fire'.

Sally shared the same photo of the latest offering from the Yarn Bombers as she noticed it on her way up to the swimming baths this morning. It's for the events in the Town Square and surrounds this weekend.

I still cant see why is apparently too hard to plumb some water into the bottom of the Jubilee Fountain for the dogs? Anyway, surely without water it ceases to be a fountain although I have never like the alternative term despite knowing the genus of the accolade. I am not a particular Royalist but it does prominently declare its original commemorative links and should be referred to as such.

Yesterday followed the forecast and we had a wet and windy end to the day. It was wet and windy at 20:00 and all night. Still the same this morning and the glass has dropped to 1029mb. The forecast is for light rain until noon and then cloudy. Th wind is the story, a brisk westerly with gusts to 50mph gives us a 9C high and 1C for a low with a -5C chill all day. Tomorrow and Monday we can look forward to storm Malik..... Deep joy.

We could hardly stand up outside today! One gust of 72mph around 9am and it never really eased off all day.

Yesterday was rough and the wind didn't ease until early evening. At 20:00 it was calm, clear and cooling down fast. It's the same this morning. The glass is up on 1029mb. The forecast is for a bright dry day until this evening when wind and rain will come in, there is a yellow warning for wind. The constant SW wind is light until late this afternoon when it rises and brings rain in. The high today is 5C and the low 2C with a -5 chill when the wind rises later. We will have the wind all night and until midday on Monday. After that we have some mixed unsettled weather, everything from sun to cloud and rain.

Yesterday we started the day calm and sunny but in the afternoon light rain came in and the wind rose. By 20:00 we had strong wind with violent gusts and that lasted all night. This morning the wind has fallen and the rain has stopped. The glass fell yesterday but is rising now and is on 1014mb. The forecast is for a bright overcast day with rain later tonight. The wind is WNW and brisk giving us a high of 5C and a low of 4C with -6C chill at times this morning. February is going to start with mild, wet, unsettled weather.

Rain came in in the afternoon and at 20:00 it was wet and windy. Same first thing this morning but now it has stopped raining. The glass rose yesterday but has fallen back to 1015mb. The forecast is for the overcast to lighten by mid morning and perhaps rain later. The westerly wind will be brisk and gust to 45mph giving a high of 9C and a low of 7C with a chill of -4C. The outlook is no different, expect similar conditions for the next six days. February fill dyke black or white!
Later, at 07:30.... It's stopped raining in Barlick and the wind is rising.....

That was a gusty wind yesterday, when I went for a walk at dinner time it set me back on my heels a couple of times. At 20:00 it was still windy and we had light rain. Less wind first thing this morning but still light rain and I've just popped out, no change as yet. The glass is unchanged on 1015mb. The forecast is for the rain to cease and we are promised a dry but overcast day. The constant west wind is moderate, gusting to 30mph at times. It gives us a high of 8C a low of 6C and a chill of -4C at times. The six day outlook is for similar weather but quite unsettled at times. The main characteristic is how mild it is.

For most of the day we had light rain and it didn't really stop until 20:00 but was back first thing this morning and hasn't stopped. None of this is in the forecast. The glass has fallen to 1009mb and is still falling. The forecast is for an overcast day with heavier rain in the early morning. The constant brisk WSW wind gusts to over 40mph later and gives us a high of 8C with a low of 1C with a chill of -4C all day. The six day outlook is for similar unsettled weather but no sign of a cold snap yet.

I'll drop the current Space Weather here. We are currently being battered by an extremely violent Solar Storm. The numbers are higher than I have ever seen them. The app I use to monitor such stuff reports, INTERPLANETARY SHOCK detected that will hit Earth at 07:16 GMT with a speed of 512 km/s. It reached alert level six an hour ago which is a purple alert, higher than the normal red of most major incidents. It has dropped back to amber at the moment. The effect has been brought about by a combination of massive coronal holes on the heliosphere and a simultaneous CME event. We are ramping up nicely into the next Solar Maximum cycle.

All I know about that is, that as with terrestrial weather, there's bugger all we can do to stop it. What's the equivalent of a good waterproof for a solar storm?
Yesterday afternoon was mainly dry but that wind was very cold. At 20:00 it was dry and a bit calmer but still cold. First thing this morning it was overcast and only a light wind but colder than of late. The glass has fallen again to 1001mb. The forecast is for significant rain and sleet but so far all we have is very light rain. The forecast gives rain again all afternoon interspersed by sunny intervals. The constant brisk west wind gusts to 35mph this afternoon and gives us a high of 4C and a low of 1C with a -5C chill for most of the day. In other words it will feel bitterly cold in that wind! The outlook is still for mixed unsettled weather but generally warmer and wetter than today.
