He sent me this pic today, of when she looked her best...before old age and disease got to her. It is a nice pic...

I think he had to pic one for a memorial plaque or something ( being a bachelor and her being his best buddy, he has the money for all the fru-fru). Good luck to him. It is helping him heal. I see positive steps from him today, and as a Mum, that is good enough for me. He is heading out of the swamp...

My daughters dog died recently, he (Deagan) was her shadow, oversized teddy bear and protector.
I last saw him on the Friday, looking solid and healthy, but very quiet.
She sensed something wasn’t right with him, and over the weekend he was diagnosed with Leukemia Lymphoma. He went down-hill rapidly and on the Monday, he was gone.
A shock and big upset to everyone who knew and loved him.

I think my lad has gone for the same thing ( an urn, a paw print and a photo). Choosing them has filled his last 2 days, he is just so sad, but I face-timed him tonight and he looks in pretty good shape, so I know he will be ok. He seems to have found peace now.
I don’t think we realise how extra special a pet is to young folk who live alone. The pet is someone to come home to. Different I think, to a family pet - young, single people connect with their pet on a different level and as a source of great comfort.

I think it’s almost like losing a child for them.
I say almost because I have a child, and obviously that would be a much harder loss, but for the childless , the pet is like their child.

I expect it is the same for older people who live alone too.

Our little 3 legged cat, Bing Bong Bella, often keeps me company when I'm working outside. Yesterday she helped me to clean out the hen and duck houses. :laugh5:

Lovely cheerful pics Wendy. That does not look like a deprived cat, three legs or no! It has won first prize in the race of life, being looked after by you. :biggrin2:

I had a thought today. Bonfire night is coming up. This year I don't have to worry about a frightened dog!

Not excessively so Cathy. True he has left a hole but there are definite advantages in not having to look after a dog!
One big one is cost, it's amazing how much money vanishes in feeding them and paying the vet's bills.

Another thought struck me Cathy. I have enough trouble guarding against personal incontinence without having to manage Jack's! :biggrin2:

I hear you Stanley, but I was thinking that this was your first Halloween without him, and you would be missing him ‘in spirit’.

The cat Cathy! Bruce is quite scared of her, if he gets too close she goes for him. I can't believe she went and sat with him like that. He eventually stood up and turned round tipping her onto the floor. There was a moment when she considered grabbing on to him ... :laugh5:

The problem is cats see movement first and fire out at it instinctively, one of ours still attempts to catch tail if she notes it flicking out of the corner of her eye. I think dogs go more by smell so can work out a bit first if it needs a clout or a bite.
