Exercise is always good for you within reason but for some reason we are told that a walk early in the morning is the most beneficial of all. Good enough for me! I shall try to have a regular early pipe opener!

Problem is if I am awake , half the world is not. Aside from the 7am papers, or to catch the refuse collection, it would be nice to get the parcels posted and away at the post office before 9am, which is when mum gets up and I have to get breakfast done.

Don't sit too long in one position. It can tend to cause swelling in your legs especially as you get older. Yes, that's right, another of the joys of old age I have discovered.

Did you know that you can buy diabetic socks? They are a looser fit and in particular don't have an elasticated cuff at the ankle which can restrict blood and water flows and lead to swollen feet.

If your Sistema plastic soup mug is stained red after using it for tomato soup or baked beans don't bother trying to get the stain off it. Just carry on using it and the next batches of food will remove the stain.

Or include it in your morning bleach routine!

A weak solution of warm water, detergent and bleach is a good solvent for dried blood.

If you receive a legacy in a will and believe that it should have gone to someone else, don't just give it to them because it will be liable for tax. What I have found is that there is a way to do this by getting your solicitor to draw up a Deed of Variation. This is a legal tool whereby you can redirect the legacy to another person and the effect is as if the legacy was left to them in the will and therefore is not taxable.

Can you remember the time you were out shopping and saw a clever gizmo kitchen tool and bought it? Too often they don't get used. I bought one such tool twenty years ago in a store in Minneapolis, it was for pitting olives. I used it for the first time this week on some Kalamata olives I bought on Skipton market last week. Wonderful and worth keeping in the drawer for twenty years.

Does that refer to the last 20 years or the next 20 years?
