I have a Bluetooth cube speaker that I got for the laptop and phone. It's about 3" on each side and has two speakers in. Remarkably good for less than £10.00. Sonos stuff is good but like the Apple kit overpriced for what it is.

Of late I have been doing a lot of thinking about the responsibilities you put on people when you die. My nephew is having the full on experience of acting as family representative on the death of my brother. I have done all I can to lift the load off the daughters by putting the LPA's in place and talking to them. But now with Jack failing the subject has raised its head again. Decisions have to be made and the sooner the better. Not a happy time but these things have to be done even though I am going to live another twenty years! :biggrin2:
So today's tip is take the decisions!

I have had the executor role forced on me three times, parents and son. Parents was a drawn out probate job as they had assets. Our Dan was the worst experience because he had very little in the way of assets, still trying to make his way. Didn't stop some though from trying to get blood from a stone.

I am executor for my son. He has never married or had children. All ok at present as I have a full set of marbles, but of course, he must make other plans if my brain fails at some point. Always a worry...( he has a full plan in life for end of care, being a single man...and I know his wishes. Not something a man in his early forties often thinks about, but there it is, all in place.). Not something a mother really wants to face, but it will be followed.
I think animal welfare charities will benefit.

Occasionally, when we get one of life's shocks, it is necessary to keep a clear head and not succumb to depression. There is only one way out, upwards. So try to find the positive aspects of what has happened. :biggrin2:

plaques wrote: 14 Aug 2020, 11:41 Ten fingers and toes so why did we ever settle on the plethora of different base systems that we used to have. Twelve pennies, sixteen ounces and 14 pounds. I know there is reason but I have forgotten what it is thank goodness. All the old number systems made is easier to divide the numbers into smaller bits. divide 10 by 3 = 3.333333! 14 lbs is the end result of our cwt. Ian I'm sure that anybody who understands hexadecimal, which you certainly must do, can eat the common or garden number systems .
While the money system had shillings in it, the introduction of the Florin was in part a decimal coin being 10 to the Pound, other sub-divisions were the Crown (4) and the Half Crown. Was the 12 pennies related to 12inches to a foot ?

Three old pennies weighed 1 ounce, so twelve would be 4 oz. Handy I suppose if you had lost the weights for your scales, (as long as you had enough pennies). :extrawink:

Eight old £ coins piled on each other equaled 1 inch. It now takes 9 of the new £ coins, That's inflation for you. :biggrin2:

I didn't know that but I agree Ken, it is. I always liked the old half dollars, a proper coin! If you had eight of them in your hand a Pound felt as if it was worth something!

Never trust a shop keeper who has a finger on the pan of the scales when weighing your purchase. I knew an old butcher who made a fortune out of his finger and boasted about it.

I had to pull one lass up on that and it was rather embarrassing. She was a large girl. One of the rolls of fat in her abdomen was resting on the scales every time she weighed anything! I wonder how many people had paid a bit for her tummy :laugh5:

I think both the Bible , and the Quran have counsel roughly along the lines of "cursed is he who uses false measure" This led in honest times the likes of the Bakers Dozen and the greengrocer tending to go a bit over on weight just to be on the right side of correct.

The level of dog hair slowly recedes! I was right about the main source of the dirt being Jack.
So today's tip is that if you are considering becoming a dog owner, carefully consider how you will handle the mess!
We live and learn. I am getting used to being dog-less. One thing I have noticed is that I walk more easily not having to stop frequently while he investigates bitch pee!

Ignore the unthinking people who don't give you social distance and say thank you to the ones that do, There are more of the latter than the former who are usually younger people.
