Of course CGTN is a nationally owned Media organisation and pushes propaganda, isn't everything approved or censored here? China chose not to publish the terrorism that was happening for 20 years in Xinjiang. When it took action to stop this terrorism it is internationally vilified. China has its own rules and modus operandi for its own country.

That censorship extends to the Internet too. We can't get Facebook, WhatsApp and crap like that. Google is crippled which I feel is a shame but Google covertly probably collects more information about me and everyone else than the Chinese government do. They are welcome to it. Other than that I have internet access 24/7 at speeds most of you can only dream about.

Personally I feel safer and freer here than anywhere else I've lived and I love living here.

Well that is a good thing, China, and something we wish for each other, no matter where we live. I've travelled a bit and haven't found a place I would rather live than here. There are lots of places within Australia that I would not like to live, but people do, and they love being where they are too. I could never live in a big city...

Let's rewrite that final sentence: This crackdown on a religious minority who are committing terrorism and inciting separatism is unparalleled in the history of communist China.

The article is still western propaganda against China. For example it says 'In 2013 and 2014 there were violent attacks in Beijing and Kunming (Yunnan province) that China attributed to Uyghur terrorists.' The fact that a group of Uyghur terrorists were caught after rampaging with machetes at Kunming railway station and killing and injuring many innocent people seems to be lost on this journalist.

It isn't perfect but China can do without these terrorists. If it wasn't for them there would be no need for these camps.

You are lucky in Australia (and New Zealand) that you have a small population. I love peace and quiet too and listening to the birds singing. I don't live in a big city. The one thing about China is that there is music everywhere. Gentle folk music, people singing and dancing in the parks and squares, playing musical instruments on the hill opposite us, and generally enjoying themselves. They even have a local language in song that is not written and is passed to each other by participation, probably a relic of working in the fields and hillsides. By 10 pm everything is silent once more.

Nanning means peaceful expanse in the south, Pingguo means apple, so I Iive in apple town!

Routines are great and I love 'em but on a morning like this there is no shame in exercising common sense and shortening a walk to get back in the warm and dry. Jack would second that! (See Pennine Weather, it's 'orrible!)

The main danger facing us Crumblies in winter is slipping and falling. So, if you come into that category, be careful. Too many broken hips in weather like this and unfortunately they can prove fatal.

If you have an outdoor water tap make sure it's insulated. I used to tie pipe insulation around ours but have now taken the modern high-tech approach - a purpose-made polystyrene box with clip that fits over the tap!

Mine is currently isolated indoors with the outside tap open. I just haven't got round to buying insulation yet

In olden days when it was so cold that indoor taps froze overnight the trick was to leave them running slowly but that's not acceptable these days.

Kev, you could easily make a DIY version of what I have. Find a suitable piece of polystyrene (PS) that's already in the shape of a box big enough to go over the tap and fit flush to the wall, or glue one together from some PS sheet. Make a small hole in the front and thread a rubber band through but with something on the end to prevent it going right through the hole. Put the box over the tap and against the wall, while stretching the band over the head of the tap to keep it in place. Bingo, job done!

Another fix would be to wrap grease band round it and cover with Foil

As the annual frenzy builds, keep your head! Nobody is going to die if you run out of mince pies! There is a limit to what people can eat, don't end up binning good food, too many people are starving. (I know, not a welcome thing to say at this time of year but there are people in our own country that will be hungry.)
