Stanley wrote: 11 Jan 2020, 04:42 Today's tip. Repeat prescriptions always take longer than expected! Get the request in to the surgery in good time. A 'two day' delay can easily become 5 days due to the way they work.
Register for 'Patient Access' at the surgery. You can then use the website, or download the app to your phone, to order repeat prescriptions without having to collect the paperwork, as it's sent to your nominated chemist. As it's all done online the whole process is usually well within the 48 hours

It's my old fashioned nature Kev. I feel a lot happier with bits of paper and also remember that there are many who rely on the same system so by supporting it I am perhaps helping to stave off the tide of digital.
I know, it's hard for you to understand but it's what I am comfortable with. I have the same attitude to banking....
The bottom line is that I am an Old Fart!

We just use our PC to visit the surgery's web site and tick the boxes for the repeats. Like you, Kev, we then collect from the pharmacy. I agree it's sensible to book them early because it's also possible for the pharmacy to run out of stock, especially with Brexit still hanging over us. The use-by dates on tablets are generally a couple of years ahead so I make sure to keep at least an extra month's stock in.

My diabetic nurse told me I could probably do without the Metformin but it has cardiac benefits so they're keeping me on it. Be interesting to see if things stay that way if there are shortages due to 'Brexit', I'm more concerned about how it's going to impact a cruise around the Med...

They're very hot at our surgery about putting prescriptions in early Tiz. I had one refused because it was 'Too early'. I always pick me own up as well, the walk is good for me!
Today's tip. Clean sheets/duvet covers always make you sleep better!

There is a plan to dispense (if that is the correct word) with paper prescriptions and allow more electronic transfer. This has the potential of saving the NHS £300M a year. Not to mention global warming.Prescriptions

The crafty way it to put in each month's request slightly early so that you build up `credit'! :extrawink:

Being retired is a big advantage if you are slightly under the weather, there is no pressure to go out to work and you can follow your Mother's advice. Eat well, sleep often and keep warm. That's today's tip!

Which bit? Eating, sleeping and keeping warm or being retired? :-)

So are hot bubble baths...a snuggly quilt...a load of cushions on the couch...maybe a small glass of red wine...

I'm not as demanding as you are Maz! But I will echo the snuggle. I love my bed! A product of all those years when I was short of sleep.

I am sure I will sit on the couch with my feet up in future years enjoying the luxury of a hastily made Cheese Sandwich for tea...a kickback to all the years I have slaved in the kitchen to produce an evening meal!

My tip of the day is “have a really good clear out of your kitchen cupboards” regularly.
You will be amazed how good it feels afterwards!

Both good ones Maz. I always feel better when I have a couple of day's meals sat in the fridge! I understand your feelings, it's a tyranny!

Never forget the efficacy of a dilute solution of common household bleach for sinks, worktops and lavatories. Cheaper and just as efficient as expensive dedicated cleaners. Better for the environment as well.

We have one of those 'granite composite sinks' of a light fawn colour which gradually stains especially with milky tea. Standard bleach didn't make much impression on it but one of the proprietary oven cleaners brought it up like new. Only used occasionally so the difference in money terms is minimal.

The great thing about bleach is that bacteria and viruses can't develop resistance to it!

Not welcome at Clarion House. We once had a new brewing up team for the house and I think to create a good impression on their first session they decided to "bottom" the kitchen. They used copious quantities of bleach and other cleaning products. Kitchen was spotless but a couple of weeks later the very same people were heard to be complaining about the smell on the site. Their own doing, they had killed all the good bacteria in the soak away and settlement tank of our live toileting system which was flushed by the output from the sinks. We had to haul the concrete lid off and give it an industrial dose of the equivalent of a bio-yoghurt. We didn't have a dead cat, which used to be another common way of starting them off again at one time. :extrawink:

Not if you are used to it Maz, all in the day's work.
P, yes sometimes even bleach fails, caustic soda is the answer then if you can get it but even I used a proprietary cleaner when I did Jess's frying pan, cost a bloody fortune but it did a lovely job..
