Last night, round to friends for a Valentines Day cocktails an canopies evening. I didn't partake in the cocktails as they have too many variables which are usually inflated or done on guesswork and end up a bit like easy to drink nuclear weapons.

I took a decent bottle of red to share and enjoy with the banter. We had a couple of quizzes for those present, the ladies just won the first one and I'm reasonably certain the gents won the second so evenly matched so to say. A nice night with a spread of generations, 20 something's to those of our age who have been mates for years. A nice night with a bit of fun and some good banter. I came away with my secret Valentines prize of a Nerf gun! It's a triple chamber repeater job, I will surprise our Finlay with it next time he comes before handing it over to his collection. :extrawink:

You're not alone, I had to look it up too. I wonder if one would be useful for deterring the pigeons from pulling up our plants?

As the Duke of Wellington is reputed to have said to Queen Victoria when she complained about pigeons; "Hawks Ma-am!"

You started the slide after my perfectly valid for the topic post by querying Nerf Guns, so it's all your own fault Stanley. :extrawink: :biggrin2:

Drifted into B&Q yesterday and casually mentioned that the pensioners discount card wouldn't do me much good on a monday. I was told it had been stopped on everything other than gardening goods so there's no point in going on a wednesday to help people with a bit of discount.

I joined the B&Q Club (got a few years to go for the pensioner's club) and am sent offers every now and then, most recent was 3 for 2 in emulsion paint.

With the possibility of coronavirus spreading in the UK we might need to change the title of this topic to `Where I might not be going'! This comes to mind because at this time of year Mrs Tiz and me usually attend a major postcard collectors' fair with about 150 sellers inside a big exhibition hall. Collectors and sellers come from all over the world and mingle closely. Selecting cards involves sorting through boxes and lifting out individual cards and you could be examining thousands of cards in a day. You meet lots of people and usually spend most of the day in the exhibition hall. All that sounds to me like a perfect place for contracting and spreading coronavirus, so it's possible we won't be going this year. I expect the event will soon be cancelled, which will be a big disappointment for collectors but a financial crash for the sellers who make a big part of their annual income at the fair.

That led me on to another thought. What's going to happen to sales of postcards on Ebay? That's another way for a virus to be spread if it survives long enough in the environment. And what about online trade in general? A lot of the stuff sold online comes from sellers overseas and many other items are bought by the sellers from abroad and then sold on in the UK. Coronavirus thrives by spreading through contact rather than by inhalation. We'll have to wait and see how far the virus spreads or not. Watch this space!

A friend of mine has ordered some window shutters , they normally take 6-8weeks to delivery. She has been told that they come from China and her order will take at least 6 months.

The same thing occurred to me last night when due to an inadvertent channel choice I realised that I was at the awards point in a dancing contest. Thousands of sweating people dancing up and down hugging and kissing. One to avoid I think.
Tiz, I can solve the postcard crisis. Send me your address by email, I have a bunch of cards ready to send to you.....
