I wouldn't want to have to overtake one of those in my car - you'd have to be absolutely sure nothing was coming the other way!

Peter, you never need to overtake them, they are travelling too fast for that! On those long straight roads they wind up to top speed and keep the hammer down. The sensible thing to do is keep your distance and let them get on with it.
At the moment my perception is limited to the fact that good coffee early in the morning is a never failing delight. I am a simple minded bugger!

Be careful Cathy, you'll set Ian off again on the difference between meteorological seasons and astronomical ones. All I know is that despite the sun the CH is on at low level.

Seasons.

I moved here in early October 11 years ago, and Uncle Jim who came to help went home with a bucket full of damsons from the communal tree on the approach road. The tree has been at the same stage as it was then, for the last couple of weeks of August. I'm going out with my bucket this afternoon. The leaves have started to fall from the birch tree, and it feels a bit like Autumn.

What does all that mean? I've no idea, but there's no way the central heating is going on until the end of September at the very earliest.

There was a squirrel burying a stock of walnuts in our garden last week. He/she's decided summer has gone and winter is closing on us.

Contractors are getting a bit of stick for blocking off the view to the ongoing works on the town square. I heard two blokes chatting outside the cafe while I was waiting for my turn in the bakers. One asked, "Why have they blocked off the view to what's going on", other one answered, "They must be soft, it's traditional to complain about blokes working". :extrawink: :laugh5:

The glacial speed the contractors work at is what they are hiding Ian. The same applies to the flagging contract at Cravenside and the 'work' on the Jubilee Fountain.
I have a pint pot with a poem on it that applies...
"If you work and do your best you'll get the sack just like the rest. But if you laze and bugger about you'll live to see the job right out. The work is hard, the pay is small so take your time and sod 'em all. 'Cause when you're dead you'll be forgot. So don't try to do the bloody lot, or on your tombstone, neatly lacquered these two words- 'Just knackered'!

$25 million (about one for every Australian) ‘Donation Dollars’ will be released into the Australian currency over the next few years.
It is hoped that people will give it away to charities.
Message on coin is ‘Give to help others’.

Right, and if everyone added a few more dollars as well, it might just ‘touch the sides’.
A good way to keep people aware of what is needed tho 😋

Another pic for Ian just in from Margaret on the West Coast. She says they have electric kettle, Microwave and an air fryer. She takes her own duvet and bedding, doesn't like sleeping bags and this year added a clothes line because she hates picking towels up out of the sand! I see she even has carpets but of course they can rely on dry weather.

We also have an electric kettle, why waste gas if you are paying for the leccy! Carpet also, no sleeping bags, mattress, topper, cover and duvet, sleeping bags are too much faff. Paracord for lines for anything you want and this years additions, electric lights and an electric cool box. All of this still does not add up to what you refer to as "glamping", it's just modern day camping, got the T shirt for all versions of the old stuff and don't really want to go back there. :extrawink:

Packing up this morning and away we go.

Enjoy yourselves, Panbiker! Send us some pics...no red dust for you I expect.
Heard from friends in their caravan today...wind and rain the order of the day.
We don’t feel the tug of going away just now. Weather isn’t great and hubby has wall to wall work (and because it is a bit miserable neither of us mind his workload). But we can see a day soon when we might head off. It will be soon after we get the shorts and T-shirts out of winter storage...

Ian, I left the pears to argue with themselves and they have ripened, I am steadily working my way into eating them rather than cooking, less waste, I only throw the stalk away. Thanks again for the gift.

Went to look at the progress in the town square today, thought it was about time I saw what all the fuss, in particular Facebook groups, was about. The flags have real character and the quality of work is really good, it'll look stunning when it's done.

I went into Town Square yesterday afternoon and sure enough, screens have gone up. Progress is glacial and I suspect that I was right, this is what they are trying to conceal but it isn't working. I wonder if anyone will ever reveal the cost?
