The strong wind and the fact there is still snow blowing on the wind.....

I heard that report. Amazing what turns some people on.
What's getting my attention is the old fashioned winter weather we are having at the moment. I tempted fate the other day when I suggested it was a thing of the past!

I've just looked (09.30) at Flight Radar and the sky is seething with aircraft, not just over the UK but all over Europe. Many will be flights to and from holiday destinations but I wonder how many of the planes are carrying people who have just caught the new omicron virus. When I look at South Africa it's different - many fewer aircraft and they might be flights within Africa.

Ian, Getting older isn't a good reason for celebrations but I suppose its better than the alternative. Enjoy your day and keep safe :good: .

Thanks everyone. As I am sure everyone knows, in the main I don't think anyone feels any older as each birthday rolls along. On the other hand I bet just about everyone thinks ,where did all those years go". I know I spent about 5 seconds on that muse.

Onwards and upwards as they say, I got a new jumper and some brass off the kids for some more winter walking trousers, oh and enough sweeties to keep me going for a while. I have rice pudding in the oven for after tea :extrawink:

It sounds like you're having a great time Ian! Happy Birthday and enjoy the rice pudding - as Fred Dibnah said when drinking a pint and eating fish & chips `Those rich people in London don't know what they're missing!'

That was up to me, I had a spoonful of home made (2019 batch) hedgerow jelly and Carnation milk as well. :extrawink:

I got a letter from the UK regarding an old pension I still have over there. The letter was marked Strictly Private and Confidential .

What attracted my attention was that the envelope was unsealed :surprised:

Spooky - I wrote yesterday how, to keep up with China etc, we may have to stop hiding our personal details and be more open to be secure, rather than less open. The boss of MI6 was on the Today programme this morning and said almost exactly the same. Perhaps they are listening in to OG!

The arrival of my new deep fat fryer. Made in China, minimal construction. Let's see how long it lasts. Bad news is that it isn't suitable for dripping as the element is actually in the fat. Looks a bit fragile to me....
Peter, I watched the video and have been in a few extreme events myself. I often think how lucky we are here in the middle of Barlick, we occasionally get nasty weather but the last time it was as catastrophic as the storm in Turkey was July 1932......

Over the last week the boiler has slowly been losing pressure. This morning I finally found the leak, the tail into the TRV, on the new radiator in the hallway, was weeping. A nip up of the compression fitting looks to have resolved things, I suspect the cooler overnight temperatures are the cause.

Just glad it wasn't under the floor as I would have had to lift the new laminate to locate it :good:

That's exactly what a lot of people have had to do because their 1970s houses had downstairs concrete floors with CH pipes laid in the concrete but not protected from corrosion. My cousin had a terrible time getting her floor problem sorted out.

The first house I bought had microbore (10mm) pipes set in the concrete floors, microbore is not good in the south east as the water is hard and they clog up. I replaced it with surface mounted 15mm copper, certainly made a difference. The house was much warmer once the volume of water through the radiators increased.
