I agree Cathy. Why should he be treated differently than others?
BBC are having serious problems this morning. Complete loss of sound on the digital service intermittently all morning.

This BBC article from January 6th sums up Djokovic, Carthy. He's one more of those gullible wierdos but a rich one...

If he was allowed to compete the crowd wouldn’t hold back . He’d soon find out what the average person thinks of him. And rightly so.

I'm glad to hear that, Cathy. He's made a mistake thinking he can get one over on the Aussies!

On a weekend when a leading athlete has made himself into a parable of self-indulgence (and I speak of a Serbian tennis player), it’s good to remember one who did not.
Did you note this, the opening line of Bob's Bit yesterday? Very unusual for him to be topical. I think he has strong feelings about the Serb as we do. Did you also note the Serbian government saying that the deportation could "damage relations" between the two countries? A ridiculous episode and one that should never have happened if the Victorian authorities had read and understood the regulations.

Have a look a the photos and videos in this Twitter feed about the Hunga-Tonga volcano eruption: LINK
There's a video that starts with a guy keeping fit on the beach `boxing' a tree trunk - keep watching and you see the wave coming towards him. Also there's a note from the US National Weather Service in Alaska confirming to someone that the booming they heard was the Tonga volcano!

The thing that has struck me over the last few days is that we have heard remarkably little about it evidently because the under sea cables have been broken. Also all this is happening under water but the shock waves have been felt thousands of miles away. I can't help thinking that if it had happened in Brighton we would have had a lot more news. (A small country far away.....)

I'd been puzzled by the description of it as an `underwater volcano' yet photos from previous days had shown it apparently erupting from an island. Now I find this which explains the confusion...
The Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha'apai volcano, about 30 kilometers (20 miles) southeast of Tonga's Fonuafo'ou island, sits underwater between two small islands at about 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) high from the sea floor, with about 100 meters (328 feet) visible above sea level.

There's more explanation of the event here:

Have a look at the radar images in this article. The third image is captioned as Cumbria but at the bottom it extends down to the Ribble estuary and you can follow the East Lancs town west - Preston, Blackburn etc. Perhaps you can even pinpoint Barlick! The fourth image has my manor at the bottom and I can easily pick out Taunton, Bridgwater etc...

Barlickers might remember the Council trying to protect the railings at the bottom of the steps into the Pioneer car park by yellow hatching and two posts.

Image

As you can see all did not go well. They came back and cut the posts off leaving holes in the ground with jagged metal at the bottom. It was only yesterday I was thinking it was time something was done about them.
So it was a surprise this morning when I noticed that the tarmac was dry and two neat patches have been put in the holes. They must have heated the holes to get a good bond with the new tarmac.

My Morrisons order was due 10.30 - 11.30. No show by 12.30.
Mr Indignant of Midsummer Mel on the phone. Their computer doesn't speak Oldham I'm afraid.

Got through to very nice person who patiently explained that the delivery time was actually 10.30 - 11.30 PM.

Didn't fancy that so cancelled the whole thing.

Had second thoughts - rang back, and it's coming tomorrow 7.30 - 8.30 AM. Is it me or the rest of the world? :laugh5:

Indeed - I don't think my brain could accept the crazy idea that groceries could be delivered at 11.30 PM.

Anyway the van was here at 7.30 on the dot. We're saved. Not been up so early for ages.

Coincidentally there's a large lattice pork pie among the swag - I thought it might do to celebrate the fall of Boris at the hands of the 'pork pie group' led by the MP for Melton Mowbray, but he has defied gravity again.

According to this article in the FT three-quarters of a billion pairs of wireless ear bud devices were sold globally since 2017 but when they go wrong they can't be fixed, and when the batteries fail they usually can't be replaced. It all ends up in landfill, rare earth metals and all...
`I tried to fix my wireless earbuds. It did not go well' LINK
`...By 2026, a decade after Apple released the first mainstream wireless earbuds, nearly all of these 750 million AirPods, Samsung Galaxy Buds and the rest will, given their lifespan of two to five years, probably be defunct. And the leftover mass of plastic, copper, circuit boards, magnets and batteries will join the planet’s trove of e-waste, which is expanding at a speed recycling can’t keep up with.

Bought a hot air fryer three weeks ago. No serviceable parts if it goes wrong ring.-xxxxxxxx or return to store. Things did go wrong so back to the store. No quibble money back "yes we've had quite a few back lately." The shelves were still piled high with the things. Was it just a bad batch or are they letting the customer be their fault finding department. What happens to those returned? e-bay perhaps or just dumped.

I'vwe been watching the 'baldy food guy' on Youtube.

Baldy food guy

He got one and it looked handy. Considered it for as moment but they are quite expensive, and the fact that my Halogen Oven only lasts for about 18 months put me off. Not sure of they use the same sort of heating element though.

I have reason to believe that 2 unwanted chairs I rescued from Mum's house are actually William Morris & Co arts and crafts chairs. They probably belonged to my Grandad's second wife Ada, who was quite a stylish lady. Anyone know anything about chairs? They are like this but with wicker rather than rattan seats.

No but I can't resist butting in. They are very stylish, and I like the very long wavy back 'struts'. I don't think that's very common.

I assume you have you looked very closely for any marks - maker or retailer?

I checked out David Dickinson's show, but he has no programme dates for this year. He's older than me - so I don't blame him.

You're very handy with the browser and the camera - so send photos etc to a good auctioneer. They'll give you an idea I'd say.
**********************************************************

PS Just looked at more chairs than enough. Can't see any with such a back. Reminds me of Charles Rennie McIntosh, but he didn't do wavy backs. (You should be so lucky )

I like them a lot and don't want to sell. I'm just impressed with my good taste rescuing them from the tip! I haven't looked for marks yet but I will!
