We spoke about the Richard Montgomery, in the Thames estuary, a while ago. They're going to remove the masts as they're becoming unstable, there's a BBC article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-l ... 7411364604

The thing that strikes me is that the wreck is near London and a tourist attraction. In contrast Beaufort's Dyke is out of sight in the North Channel and is a far bigger problem. Is this why the former gets all the attention?
Decaying munitions are dangerous but everyone seems to be assuming that if there was an event all 1,400 tons would go up at once. That is extremely unlikely. Besides, there is nothing that can be done to avoid whatever will happen if anything detonates prematurely. So cutting the masts off and leaving it alone to fester sounds like the best plan.

Later.... The fact it was broad daylight at 05:00 and it'll stay that way until after 22:00. Not long since it was 09:00 and 15:00. Can we please have some summer to go with it?

I had a long email conversation with Bob yesterday and in the course of that told him how many page hits his Bits have. He's been given the all clear by the quacks after his fall and his wife Paulette, though not better is getting encouraging news from her doctors.
(Bob's walking about five miles each day and last Wednesday did almost 8 miles with no ill effect. I told him I could do about a mile at the most!)

See THIS BBC account of a school shooting in Texas, at least 21 dead and more expected.
What struck me was the fact that a young person could buy body armour and an army assault rifle with ammunition. President Biden made an emotional speech and asked how this could be possible.
High time the NRA and the gun lobby were crushed and bugger 'democracy'. This is madness....
David was saying yesterday on another topic how much we have to be thankful for. The strict control of guns in the UK is a blessing and let's not forget it.

In the aftermath of the school shooting in Texas we are flooded with the most shocking statistics about gun crime in the US. They are quite unbelievable, I'm not going to start detailing them, you've all heard them.
The question is how can a 'civilised' country allow this situation to evolve?
I think the word is 'bewildering'. One question that is being asked is how can the US question other country's human rights standards when they allow a situation at home which is so obviously damaging to the human rights of its citizens?
(By the way, have you heard some of the comments like 'all teachers should be armed'? Sheer madness!)

I took note of the price of 150ml of Lea and Perrins in the Co-op this morning. £1.65 ....1.1p per ml.
4ltr bottle cost £14.75..... .3p per ml. This is without allowing for any rise in price which of course would make it a better deal. That is a very good saving, I am glad I could afford to do it.

I will probably get the equivalent of the QI klaxon for this but here goes. I know that Lea and Perrin's is almost indestructible and is beneficial in many ways as has been explained in another thread, however what in earth do you need 21 pints of the stuff for?

We are still using a standard bottle that we got in 2018.

Just be aware that there's 1g of sugar per teaspoon of Lea and Perrins. That's nearly 100g per pint so don't drink it all at once :biggrin2:

There's a bit of a history to this situation, and some deep psychology on behalf of more than one member, I wouldn't be surprised.

I started it - by finding a brilliant offer on 'Approved Food' of Lea and Perrins 4 litre bottle at a price so cheap it could not be ignored. I bought several knowing that it would keep for ever. I forget the detail, perhaps I got him some, or he got it himself, but Stanley joined the club.

I'm like you Ian - a bottle lasts for years, so I ended with a lot in the cupboard. I put one in the tribute bag which I took when I went to Barlick after Aunty Josie's funeral in October 2018. I guess he has finished that one now. Mine has all gone too.

No Klaxon. It's all a bit of harmless fun.

Of course but nearly £45.00 on sauce! That's the equivalent of over 2% of the price of Kev's trench. :laugh5:

Have you tried Stokes brown sauce. nearly £3 a fairly small bottle - but outstandingly the best.

Came an easy top of twenty different bottles on the Bald Foody Guy Youtube channel.

We have just finished a bottle and it's been sat beside the sink for a couple of days while I consider the possibility of washing it out to recycle or just dumping it in the bin.....

Yes Kev I am aware of the sugar content but I probably get more from my carrots and parsnips.Like them, the question is whether it is worth the carbs and as I use so little it's not a problem. As for the consumption Ian, if you use it on a daily basis and for marinades it's not excessive. I would point out also that my estimate how long it will last is probably short of the truth.
David's memory is correct, he found 4ltr bottles of 'past the sell-by date' L&P for £4 each at Approved Foods and alerted me. I tried to access the firm yesterday but couldn't get into any details he is right again.
I am very happy with my purchase and don't feel the need to defend myself any further... :biggrin2:

The fact that on the brink of Flaming June we will have a temperature today of 7C and my CH has kicked in. We do have an unpredictable climate in the UK. In many ways it protects us from extremes but every now an then I'd like a heat wave......
