I wish him many happy hours with his bees. All the people I know who have taken up bee-keeping seriously have been hooked for life!

Thanks Stanley. He has been hooked since he was a little lad, fascinated by them. He had no problem in handling them from about four years old. He has just turned 36 and now has the disposable income to set himself and his first colony up.

Ian, please pass on thanks from me and Mrs Tiz for his efforts to look after bees. We don't have a bee hive but we've deliberately planted our garden with a variety of bee-friendly plants and it's a pleasure to hear the loud buzzing. At the moment we've got several large rosemary shrubs and a crab apple in full flower and buzzing with life!

I saw this new story today `Nissan signals the end of the road for Datsun cars' BBC and it brought back memories, not of the Datsun Sunny or Cherry but of their wonderful series of Datsun Z sports cars. This is an interesting web page on Datsun models: The ten best

Ian's posting of Eric Bogle's 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda' is probably one of the most emotional songs I ever listen to. Such a waste.

I agree.

I have a track on the car music stick by Mike Harding, from his LP Bombers Moon - which I also have.

I think he wrote the lyric. I can't listen to it and I have to skip it when it comes on.

Daughter Janet used to march with the vets on Anzac Day representing her grandfather.
David, you've reminded me of my friend Steve Constantine. I once gave him a tape with Randy Newman singing Good Old Boys on one side and Paul Robeson singing Songs of Free men on the other. He said he could carry on marking papers with Newman but when Robeson came on he had to stop. I shall play it now for myself while I post.

I don't see anything wrong with that David although I do remember refusing meat of my own cattle when I was rearing them for Barley Beef and they were killed young. Good for the back pocket in those days but it never sat easily with me. I had no problem with full term beef from animals that had had a life.....
Later at 05:25. The internet has had a conniption, dropping in and out over about ten minutes. It seems to be feeling better now.....
Later.... There are suggestions that the problem on the P&O ferry included a near mutiny by the crew who have contacted the union about terminating their contracts. All is not well!

Word from my friend Daniel that the Guardian was featuring him.
Have a look at this link.
(He misheard the name of the lad with the broken hand, it was 'Higgy' not Ziggy....)

It was actually yesterday, the 27th, according to that Wikipedia page but never mind the date, it's reminding people that matters, especially with Putin carrying out another diabolical killing of innocent people and transporting others to Siberia. And he calls them Nazis!
----------------------------------------------------------

My sister-in-law who lives in Buckinghamshire has received this promo email and she forwarded it to me because she knows we have a link with Barlick. The business states `We’re based in Barnoldswick' but the address at the end is shown as Nesfield House, Broughton Hall, Broughton, Skipton. Is it known to OGers?

EARRINGS BAGS SCARVES
Toolally Tall Tales
We’re based in Barnoldswick, a small English town on the border between Yorkshire and Lancashire full of traditions, contradictions and plenty of stories…
Abstract Diamonds BLUE & PALE BLUE
Both Yorkshire and Lancashire are well known for their cheeses, and our local deli developed the best of both. A Lancashire cheese made exclusively from Yorkshire cow’s milk, called Barnoldswick Pink.
60s Pearl Daisies BLACK
Yorkshire was once known for its liquorice growing and production and, as we're located on the border of Yorkshire, we wanted to celebrate that history. Excitingly, our popular limited edition edible earrings have sold out again.
Daisy Studs WHITE PEARL
It’s no secret that here in the North we’re partial to a pie and here in Barnoldswick it's no different…at lunchtime we often nip to our local Pork Pie Shop for a hybrid Yorkshire / Lancashire pie. Our porky pigs enjoy the best of both worlds - spending their week in Yorkshire and weekends in Lancashire.
Keep your eyes peeled for more Toolally Tall Tales.

Toolally

Looks like more style than substance at the moment. Dragons' Den presentation sort of stuff.

Nice. I've printed it out and slipped it into his book that I bought a few years ago. A great and totally terrifying description. Was there any particular reason the no safety harness was used by steeple jacks. Is that still the case today with Elfin Safety and all that?

It will sit near your (treasured) invitation for me to represent you in Oxford, at the Bodlean, opening of the Daniel Meadows archive in October 2019. Sadly had to be declined.

I think that's an accurate assessment David. They certainly hadn't attracted my attention. Nevertheless, new business making an effort, has to be a good thing. I wish them well.
