We could re-introduce the free school milk for every kid in the country for the first five years at school. That would help although with today's kids and their inherited allergies from unhealthy diets, makes you wonder how many could actually drink a third of a pint (or two if there as any spare) every morning without having some kind of adverse reaction. The regime in school also included by way of the milk monitors, early experience of responsibility, maths and logistics and physical work as well as the ethic of work itself. Valuable lessons not just drink of milk.

Thatcher, Thatcher milk snatcher. It's always them isn't it?

In the news about the milk it said the farmers are pouring it away down the drains. Surely that's not allowed? It would cause disastrous pollution of streams and rivers.

School milk, what a good idea Ian! Too bloody simple for this lot, Rishi Sunak could never get his head round it.
Street parties in Manchester Tiz, just people being ignorant and selfish and taking advantage of lower police numbers. Remember all the arguments about bobbies on the beat not being the face of 'modern policing'?
In so many ways, what is happening now can be traced back to austerity and the way it was applied.

Used to drink it straight from the cow when i was milking, and how many today make milk puddings using "beastings", a great nutritious dish.

Bodge, dead right. People are so far divorced from real food they wouldn't believe the taste of warm milk fresh from the cow. As for Beastings Pudding... They wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!

I'd missed the news story a few days ago of catalytic converters being stolen from nurses' cars at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. If the thieves get caught by locals they'll probably get some rough treatment before the police turn up.

There are similar ports of it happening at Darenth Valley Hospital in Dartford, Kent. These scumbags know the staff are going to be busy inside and the car park operator takes no responsibility...

Les, the tin smith at REW had a lucrative trade replacing worn out converters with dummies and was throwing the old ones away until I told him to get what they were filled with tested. He never reported back........

I spoke to him yesterday P and I think he has a bit of virus fatigue at the moment like so many of us. Janet did suggest that perhaps the reason I feel a bit down is because of stopping smoking. I hope she is right and it wears off soon! I keep taking a deep breath and reminding myself that that's the reason I am not smoking!

If you let yourself get depressed at a time like this you'll be on a slippery slope, so take Sue's advice and look for the silver lining. I stood outside my front door last night after putting the bins out and it was perfect silence except for some birdsong, no-one about, no vehicles, warm sunshine, blue sky. Hold that in your mind and the fact that thousands of people are working hard to protect us and to treat those who are directly affected by the pandemic.

You're right about depression Tiz and thanks for reminding me. I do keep marvelling at the clear air and sky and the silence even in the middle of what would normally be a working day.
