It will pass, and quite soon I'd say. We are seeing a transfer of fuel from the garages' tanks to the motorists' tanks. Unlike toilet rolls, It's not easy, and quite dangerous to hoard fuel. It's a self limiting process.

The last time I panicked I bought a Vespa scooter. That was about 1974, when petrol went up to an astronomical 50p per gallon. (That's an almost unbelievable 11p per litre. ) I've looked that up and it still looks ridiculous.

In any case I'm all right Jack. I have half a tank (250 Miles) and after only three days, my wine from Aldi has just arrived. They haven't run out of fuel and It was delivered by yet another cheery East European driver.

Ian, hearing that comment from a socialist surprises me because when I worked in a publishing company most of the employees were socialists. If I referred to people as being brain dead or stupid or in similar terms the office would go quiet and then I'd be gently reminded by the socialist majority that that sort of language was not appropriate. I'd be what we might now call temporarily `cancelled'. I put up with it so that I could learn more about publishing before starting my own small business and the people around me were otherwise fine and good mates. Is this due to there being different species in the socialist genus? :extrawink:
I don't think so but I just find the words used the most apt for the current situation. No point watering it down or being all PC etc. Turkeys voting for Christmas.

" In an area that is topping the league for every measure of poverty that you can imagine how much more brain dead can you get??"
Well said Ken, one of the best kept secrets in local politics. Look up infant mortality in Brierfield... Stephenson has never mentioned these statistics only the figures for government grants for business in the area. Here's another social democrat who thinks some people are brain dead and consequently don't give a thought to reality. Somebody says there is no shortage and this immediately suggests there must be otherwise why say that?

A man from the oil companies who knows about distribution on the midday news saying that people seeking petrol and diesel are targetting motorway services if there are any near them, These are being, in his words, 'sucked dry', and nobody has recognised this yet.

See THIS BBC report of a statement by Grant Shapps "There is plenty of petrol in the country" followed by reports showing that most petrol stations still open are either short of fuel or actually running dry. Chocolate teapots come to mind.....

There may be a general shortage of HGV drivers but, I can't see there being such a sudden shortage of HGV drivers with an ADR who can deliver the fuel. I still blame the media for creating what was a minor supply issue, to a very small number of fuel stations, into a country wide issue. We had exactly the same problem with toilet rolls last year. The slightest hint that there might be a shortage and there are drivers queuing up for hours, with their engines running, to put in twice as much fuel than they normally do and filling jerry cans. That's why there's a shortage.

In recent days, some fuel deliveries were affected, leading to panic buying and lengthy queues at some petrol stations.

In a joint statement from companies including Shell, ExxonMobile and Greenergy, the industry reiterated that pressures on supply were being caused by "temporary spikes in customer demand - not a national shortage of fuel".

PRA chairman Brian Madderson told the BBC the shortages were down to "panic buying, pure and simple", with oil companies prioritising keeping motorway service station pumps topped up.

Pumps were mainly running dry in Britain's urban areas, while Northern Ireland was currently unaffected, he said.

Mr Madderson told BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday that filling stations were being restocked, but there were not enough deliveries to restore their normal levels of fuel.

"One of our members yesterday received a tanker at midday and by late afternoon the entire tanker had disappeared into people's cars," he said.

Me neither. I probably have enough to last until my trip to Kent in a couple of weeks. Hopefully the madness will have subsided by then.

The government has just waved the competition rules between the petrol firms. Ostensibly to to prevent cartels pushing up their prices. Now we hear that they can get to together to arrange a better cover of supplies to areas in need.
Imagine a telephone call (Whatsapp) Right Fred there's an area here desperate for fuel. No competition. What you charging then????

I've just over half a tank. How long can I stand in a queue waiting to get a 1/4 tank full. Life is getting complicated. :surprised:

One of my 'dings' has fell off...

The granddaughter clock started with 'dink' dong ding dong. One of the chimes must have had a crack in it as it fell off this morning.

Go private Kev, you'd have to wait ages to get it sorted on the NHS at the moment! :extrawink:

I've a drawer full of 'dongs' but no ' dings'. Somehow a clock wouldn't sound right with too many dongs. People would start asking what's happened to your ding. Don't tell them Pike. :geek:

I may have a solution, the hourly strike has 4 dongs. One of those is about an inch longer than the broken ding (I hope you're keeping up), I can remove the slightly longer dong and chop a bit off the end to replace the broken ding.

I can't help with the dings I'm afraid.....
I had my own little problem this morning, my washing machine was stopped in mid session, had CL on the display and wouldn't do anything. I even switched it off completely but no joy. So I applied the old dictum, when all else fails, read the instructions.... :biggrin2:
After a bit of reading I found I had inadvertently initiated the Child Lock. (CL.... geddit?) I followed the instructions to de-activate it and am now in business again. :laugh5: :good:

But wouldn't you finish up with a 'Dingo'. Mind you a clock that goes Bong, Bong, Woof, would be a novelty and if you don't oil it it may go 'grr' as well.

Managed to get some of the new E10 Bio Fuel from Kelbrook Road today. I had already checked online on the DVLA website that my car would run on it. No diesel or E5 unleaded on any pump. North Valley Sainsbury's filling station was coned off and closed when we went past but open again when we were on our way back. Must have had a delivery in the interim.
