No, but I remember hitch-hiking on the German autobahns around 1970 and there were 100s of tiny service areas, which made the journeys safer - and more comfortable!

Happy Anniversary to both of you!
It's a miracle I can post this, we have BT men up both the poles in the back street. I suspect we'll be off line shortly.

They will be running the fibre cables to the poles Stanley. Open Reach have done all ours on the Croft and along Commercial Street. The fibre cables are separate to the existing copper network but they have manage to drop my broadband speed by 10Mbps from 56Mbps to 46Mbps. Never had an outage though throughout the procedure.

What has grabbed my attention even more of late is the unreliability of the BBC 'outside lines' which are managed as internet calls. 'You and Yours' yesterday had almost every call fail and had to apologise to listeners. Why is this so bad?
Given the reports of the fibre network not being up to speed, and the hacking of Internet services I am wondering if VoIP is not going to be the worlds best thing. Of course digital multiplexing has long (well 1950s analogue I think started in the USA, and came in the UK 1970s?) but I think the letting go of the electro-mechanical exchanges might prove to be a loss of resilience that might well be shown to have been needed.

It's interesting to note also that prior to the required roll out of fibre to pole. Open Reach had a lot of the poles in Barlck tagged as unsafe for climbing, they all seem to have miraculously fixed themselves. :surprised: Up and down multiple times on both "condemned" ones on Bessie and Commercial Street and also the one on Green Street which was also tagged as unfit.

It's a different team doing the fibre (they get paid more than the regular Openreach engineers apparently), perhaps no one has told them they're not fit for purpose.

BT men and vans flooding the back street again. I wonder how much it will have cost to upgrade the Barnoldswick connection?

Its fairly irrelevant I reckon Stanley. A necessary upgrade to the copper network infrastructure. The increase in revenue offered by fibre will soon negate the costs.

Boris's possible reply to the England V Denmark football match.

"I think its an opportunity for England to show that not only do we lead the world in rolling out the vaccines and building a fantastic Track & Trace but demonstrates that once we have shook off the dead hand of the EU we will forge ahead with even more fantastic deals on the World stage".

Q)And what happens if they lose?

A) Its only a game of football. :surprised:

I took this photo of replica tramroad wagons near where we stayed in Cornwall. They're in the garden of a house by the creek, sited where the old mine tramroad ended. Very appropriate.

Complete with Piskie....
Anyone remember Joan the Wad?
Much excitement in Pioneer Car Park at 12:30. Two police cars with Blues and Twos raced down the side of the Co-op from Rainhall Road and head for the War Memorial. One woman jumps out and shouts at the other officer who shoots off, siren blaring, and vanishes down Wellhouse Road. The woman PC runs across to the Co-op.
That's it.... :biggrin2:

Air ambulance has recently flown over, possibly liked to the police incident?

I do, my mum carried a small brass version of Joan in her purse, supposedly for good luck. I think it came our way when we were sorting out effects but I have no idea where she is at the moment, Sally might know.

According to Facebook there's an incident outside the Spar garage opposite Aldi. Skipton Road is currently closed.
