Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I had spiced wedges with home made chilli on top from a batch cooked last week. Chilli had proper matured during its time arguing with itself in the freezer.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I find my weekly cook up of veggies does the same in the fridge Ian. Especially if spices have been added after cooking, like a dusting of Nutmeg.
Yesterday was chicken and veggies X two for breakfast and tea. (The chicken sat in it's own gravy plus tomato puree is a good example of the maturing process. Much better now than when it was first cooked.)

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Last night I had home made chicken curry with spicy Mexican rice. Another batch from the freezer and also a "neck warmer".
Chicken, tomato and pasta bake tonight, spare from a batch made a couple of weeks ago.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I've got a pot of chilli from the freezer for tea. I think we probably ate enough food on Sunday evening to keep us going for most of Monday. We did supplement it with the continental breakfast at the hotel and skipped lunch altogether.

Chicken and veggies X two for breakfast and tea. I cooked the braising steak in a rich tomato and onion sauce and it is sat maturing in the fridge as the back stop when the chicken runs out. It tastes good now, by the time it's needed it will be superb!

Cancer support meeting yesterday so we ended up with a surplus of milk. Toad in the Hole with Nathan's Barlick Bangers and I will shove a rice pudding in the oven for afters.

Not so bad thanks Ian, I drove myself to BGH for the blood tests this morning. A bit uncomfortable with a fat leg but the paracetamol keep it down to a dull ache

The last of the chicken with veggies for breakfast. Then the steak in tomato and onion sauce with veggies for tea. It was pretty bloody good!

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Yesterday I had a fancy and so it became a Spam Day! I had three small duck eggs and fried Spam for breakfast and then the rest of the fried Spam and veggies for tea. I noticed that our Spam in the UK is actually made in Denmark.....

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I cooked a pound of stewing steak yesterday with onions and stock in the slow cooker. I had aportion of it last night with potatoes, peas and runner beans. I have boiled up some more spuds to turn the rest into meat and potato hash. First though, I have extracted a portion to make some meat and potato pies for the freezer. I have blind baked three bases and am just waiting for them to cool before shoving the filling in and popping on the lids. Pastry for the lids is currently chilling in the fridge.
I will have meat and tatie hash for tea and there will no doubt be a portion of that for the freezer as well once I have put the extensions in.
Slightly later:
Here are my pies and the small bit of spare pastry which I have loaded with currants, sultana's and home made hedgerow jelly (2020 vintage). I will bake this in the top oven for afters tonight.
The jar is full of black beans that we use for weighting when blind baking.

The last of the casseroled steak X two with fresh cooked veggies for breakfast and tea. I cooked the chicken, hot wings and belly pork in the same oven. All done now and gravy defatted.
You make my mouth water Ian, pastry and currants and spuds..... Get thee behind me.... Ah well!

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
The good news apart from the outputs being exceptionally tasty is that on the thrifty side the pound of stewing steak has turned into eight meals plus a pudding! I had a portion of beef for my tea after I had cooked it. I added the boiled spuds to what was left first then extracted the fillings for the three pies. The remainder I further embellished with a tin of chopped tomatoes, runner beans from the freezer and a tin of garden peas that I think we won in a raffle hamper. The resultant mixture divided into one portion for tea and three more for the freezer.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I had chicken and veggies for breakfast. I cheated and had two meat samosas on the Square at lunch time and then chicken and veggies again for tea.

Chicken and veggies for breakfast and tea. I stripped all the chicken meat off the bone, including the hot wings used for stuffing and mixed it with frozen peas. Lovely.....

Chicken, pork and veggies for breakfast and tea. It gets tastier each day, much to be said for maturing cooked meat and veg in the fridge.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Lee Anderson, A Conservative MP has claimed there’s no need for food banks in the UK and that people can afford to eat for 30p a day.
One way of resolving this statement is to ask our resident home cooking expert Stanley if he could live on a food budget of £2.10p per week.
If we leave out of the equation the cooking time (time is money), energy usage, cleaning costs but accept it must have the require nutritional value could it be done?
Looks like a dead cat diversion to move away from the real issue of food poverty.
