Boring I know but my oxtail and veggies fed me for yet another day!
I cheated at lunch time and had a bowl of broth and dumplings at Victoria's cafe on the Square with Susan, Jess and two great grand children.

I forgot to order pork pies and so was without my morning standby. I defrosted a haggis, made some sweet potato chips and with the sprouts I cooked yesterday I made two meals, one for breakfast and one for tea. During the day I slow cooked a mutton shank and some breast and by teatime had it deboned, defatted and ready to take some peas. So that's sat there ready for today.

You'd be welcome any time Mick, I hope you like garlic. I had haggis, sprouts and deep fried potato chunks for breakfast and tea. I cooked veggies and made stuffing so I have a well stocked fridge now. The mutton and peas will improve as the next few days go by....

By adding a few potatoes and carrots we got our third meal from the beef stew cauldron last night and a lunch for the lad too.

I like extending good stews like that, makes for a very cheap meal!
I had mutton, stuffing and veggies X two for breakfast and tea. The stuffing makes a nice extender!

The burning question is, should I have haggis, neeps and tatties for tea?

I slow cooked a ham joint overnight for last nights tea. Our Jack came round and we had crushed boiled new potatoes with garlic and cheese baked in the oven, ham and carrots with cheese sauce. Plenty of the joint left so today will be a Ham, Bean and Tomato stew type dish. Tomorrow will be a big pan of Pea and Ham soup with dumplings. All warming grub.

I tried a Gordon Ramsey recipe for Swede with Cardamon soup, which ambushed me on the interweb.

I still had my 19p swede from Aldi at Christmas, so used half of it, and I added a carrot to liven it up, and it was a big success. Just soften an onion in olive oil with a few cardamon seeds then cube and boil the swede and carrot until soft, drain, and add to the onion, with some stock (from powder) then blitz it all up. A glug of single cream of course, and that's it.

I had two bowls and that was enough for tea. Never done that before. Seemed suitable for Burns night. I think the haggis shooting season starts tomorrow.

Spooky. I got a ham shank last Friday and am considering soaking dried peas and slow cooking the shank to make some ham and pea soup.
Yesterday I had the mutton with stuffing and veggies X two for breakfast and tea....

I had almost the last of the mutton and veggies X two for breakfast and tea. I shall cook a bit of braised steak to carry me over to the new butcher's order on Friday.
I shopped for spices at Chaudry's yesterday. They keep a very good range. They have some fried onion flakes that I particularly like!
