Back to basics - the politics has become surreal and beyond comment. Sadly Harmony Tan is out (eventually - as predicted), and I wouldn't watch Kyrgios if you paid me. Disgusting person.

Ian urged the making of chicken soup from the carcass a while ago, but was rebuffed. Let me urge it too. Boil the bones, discard - then add the drippings from the roasting and about two teaspoons of bouillon / stock powder. It's expensive, but you don't need much. Then the usual veg - whatever you have lying about.

I'm sure I don't really need to say all that for such an erudite audience.

Result - delicious healthy and frugal, and makes you feel virtuous. :smile:

I love home made soup, make it all the time in the winter but definitely more salady stuff in the summer. Today was an ‘early bird’ three course lunch at the Italian by Hollingworth Lake. I feel very stuffed so there will not be much had for tea today......😊😊☕️🥪

I stuck to my boring chicken and veggies X two for breakfast and tea.
Different people, different strokes. All that goes on my bin is clean picked bones and veggie trimmings. That's what counts in the home efficiency stakes.

Yesterday I had the last of the chicken and veggies X two for breakfast and tea. I have started cooking veg for this week and today will do the rest of the cooking.

Straight veggies for Breakfast and later, after I had cooked my chicken and the other veggies, chicken and veggies for tea. (I cooked the cabbage in the gravy from the chicken, lovely, and a meal in itself!)

Chicken and veggies again. Dead simple, very easy and just right for hot weather as it can be eaten cold if you fancy it.

Breakfast was chicken and veggies, tea was the last of the veggies with £5 worth of sweet pickled herring and a small tin of marrowfat peas.... Fridge is empty!

Full on cooking yesterday including savoury mince to fortify the veggies, I resisted attacking the roast chicken, I'm saving that for when it gets really hot. Breakfast was the very last of the veggies, just a spoonful, a scotch egg and topped up with Baked Beans. Tea was veggies with savoury mince.

Veggies and savoury mince with an occasional pick at a chicken wing for both breakfast and tea (And a light lunch in between....) Up to now all have been hot meals, (I'm an old fashioned bugger!) but I can see that a pick on the chicken straight out of the fridge could be attractive later today..... :biggrin2:

I was wrong about picking on the chicken. I had savoury mince and veggies for breakfast and bought a cauliflower later when I was in Town Square,. I steamed it and put it in the fridge and had it cold for tea with flavour from some of the savoury mince.
I cheated and had a ham butty with salad for lunch in the Square from Bab's at Barlic Bites. Naughty but lovely....

I cooked tomatoes, garlic and an onion yesterday to make a tomato relish, they were all dying in the heat and needed saving! I put them in with the current veggies....

I discovered Quesadillas today. The beef version.

Or rather I found out their real name because I invented them myself quite a while ago. I used two wraps rather than folding one though , and mine didn't have cheese on. I now think the cheese is a good idea.

I realised I had all that's required in the fridge, so I had one with a plate of salad. Very nice - and incredibly frugal. :smile:

Like you David I invented them a while ago but without the wraps.... mainly because I have become a fan of the spice mix after being triggered by Kath Brown's hot and spicy wings. I make my own now and use it in everything!
I think my ageing palate needs more stimulus these days.....
I had chicken and veggies two for breakfast and tea. Today my kids bring me fish and chips for a treat.....

Plenty of scope for spicy in the Asian take aways, be a devil and have a change Stanley. I can recommend the Raj and Usmaniyah is belting as well. :extrawink:

I can do all the spicy I need myself Ian, don't forget I have 12 litres of Lea and Perrins and the spice shelves at the far end of Chaudrey's. Besides, I'm a lot cheaper than take aways.....
Yesterday I had chicken and veggies for breakfast and a light lunch and Susan and Mick brought me fish and chips for tea from Town Square.....

I only suggested it as I know you are partial to a take away.

I can do spicy myself as well but cant hold a candle to ones produced by an expert chef. On the cost side, not much difference between a decent curry and fish and chips.

The only 'take away ' I am partial to is fish and chips as an occasional clandestine treat. I cook everything else myself and quite like the control. It's also a lot cheaper than take aways!
Yesterday I had the last of the chicken and veggies and today I shall be cooking this week's meat and veg. Total cost of veggies and meat is £20. You couldn't live for a week off take away for that money.
