Me too, the 1p Mobile account's £10 for 120 days or £2.50 a month is what I pay for knowing I've got a working mobile phone if and when it's needed. It works, I've had no trouble with them, topping up is easy so I'll stay with them.

From the moneysavingexpert.com web site (the web page has links for the connections mentioned in the text below):

`If you lose your phone, there's a way to make it ring – even when it's on silent' LINK
If you lose your phone and realise you've it set to silent, you often despair and think it's pointless trying to ring it to locate it. Luckily, this isn't the case. There's a way to help you find it that could save you having to shell out on a new one or having to pay any insurance excess.
If you're an iPhone user, you can use the Find My iPhone service on iCloud to make it ring.
Go to Find My iPhone
Login to your iCloud account (you must have one), select the device you want to emit a sound and click 'play sound'.
Your device will ring whether it is on silent or not.
If you've an Android phone, you can make it emit a noise with Google's Find My Device service, provided you've set up a Google account with the phone.
Go to Find My Device,
Login to your Google account (you must have one) and click 'play sound' on the device you want to ring.
Your device will ring whether it is on silent or not.

Folk loose them all the time because the majority of users carry them around with them. Not everyone keeps them at home or has zipped pockets.

We once found a mobile phone in our house that had been lost by a workman! Just look at all those poking out of back trouser pockets.

I often wonder the same thing Gloria. Most people have them handy if they are not actually using them which is most of the time. Easiest thing in the world to snatch them out of the users hand.

News from the States that the airlines are warning of 'catastrophic' consequences if 5G is launched this week. Evidently radio altimeters are particularly susceptible.

Re: Mobile Phones

About a year ago I bought a Moto G31 smartphone. It was on Android 11 and now every time I switch it on it wants me to upgrade to Android 12. The first time I saw it I looked to see what changes 12 would make because I often find the new stuff isn't something I want. That was the case so I deleted the notification. But the notification still comes up every time and they're gradually making it harder to get rid of it to see the normal screen. Fortunately I did a google search and now find that online forums are full of strong criticism of Lenovo (the owner of Motorola) because since March people have been getting the Android 12 pushed and when they install it their phones become almost unusable. Lenovo seem unable to rectify the problem and they're not offering to replace phones or give any other help. I'm surprised the story hasn't got onto the wider news media. And Lenovo isn't providing any security updates for Android 11. On the Lenovo users forum there are many long threads complaining since March and I've linked just one of them here. This is the first page of the 43-page thread.... Lenovo forum thread page 1

I won't be upgrading my phone because security isn't an issue for my use of it but I wonder how this will end. A class action suit in the US perhaps?

Mrs Tiz has a Moto G30, almost the same model as mine, yet she hasn't been pushed to upgrade to Android 12. But do we know whether we are all still getting security updates if Moto says they're only doing them for 12 now?

My Samsung Galaxy S10, inherited from our Jack is already on Android 12. I just accept all the upgrades when prompted, works seamlessly.

Reading these last few posts in the Computing thread reminds me that we have a Mobile Phone thread, I have moved the posts here and renamed them, service with a smile. :extrawink:

I bought a new phone a couple of months ago, just looked and it's Android 13. It seems stable enough.

This caused me to check what version I have.

Oh dear - I'm on Android 10. Sense of inadequacy. Hope I'm not missing anything important.

Highly unlikely, the newer versions use more resource. The phone 'build' wouldn't allow an upgrade to an unusable version. You could 'root' the phone, to install a newer version, but it would probably run like a 3 legged camel :biggrin2:

I guess it doesn't matter if we stay on the old version as long as we don't use the phone for things that need to be secure such as banking and don't feel we are missing out on all those extra widgets the later versions offer.

I never use the phone for serious banking. Too much chance of 'fat finger' errors and the screen is too small.

I blame phones for people falling for scam artists. Not easy (for me anyway) for example to 'hover' the pointer and find who the email is really from.

PS. Except for my petty cash account with Starling Bank - which is easy to use and never has much in it anyway.

I have never done any banking on line on my computer and certainly not on the phone. The thought of doing anything consequential depending on my phone skills or fat fingers is anathema.

I discovered yesterday, and just verified now, that if you connect Bluetooth to your mobile phone for Spotifying reasons - when you receive a call not only does your ring tone activate. (Rock my Soul in the Bosom of Abraham by Lonnie Donegan), the number of the party calling you is announced simultaneously, and very loudly on the Bluetooth speaker. This can be quite confusing the first time, and is a little alarming until the brain kicks in. :laugh5:

I don't know if it was an accident but I watched a video on Youtube of a trip on the Electric Railway , the man was aiming to get off at Laxey and go on the Snaefell railway but it was closed due to the weather so he went to Ramsey instead. He had bought a roamer ticket.
