Dont eat the Flowers

Post by Ringo »

Supermarkets have been urged to keep daffodils away from fruit and vegetable aisles this spring - in case they are mistaken for food.

In a letter to major stores, Public Health England warned the flowers could be confused with onions or Chinese vegetables, and consumption of them was an "emerging risk".

Apparently 27 people had to be treated for poisoning from Daffodils and Crocus last year........what they don't seem to understand is 60,000,000 of us didn't eat them.

I bet someone was paid a substantial amount of public money to come up with this advice

Welcome back to the site as well.

Hello Ringo, it seems like a long time since I've seen you posting on OG - it's like you disappeared as I arrived. Was it something I said?

The ironic side of the daffodil news is that a drug called galantamine is extracted from daffodil bulbs and used to slow the progress of Alzheimer's disease.

I must admit that being strictly a 'fish and chip' man it always worries me that whenever I'm faced with Haute Cuisine or 'white plate' dining as I call it and see all the bits of greenery and flower heads I'm never too sure which bits to eat. Invariably, I take a nibble at everything and hope for the best. I suppose having a cast iron stomach helps me to survive.

I saw it and immediately distrusted the figure of 27.... How do they know these things.... I think Kev is right, natural selection at work. I'll bet there hasn't been a case in Barlick.....

There was a mention somewhere of a sort-sighted man having eaten his hearing aids because he confused it with his cashew nuts. It takes all types! (Mind you, I put coffee in the teapot recently!)

Did he go to the doctor's complaining of deafness caused by eating cashews?

Perhaps he was trying to speak to the person on the TV screen. Did he get through?

‘’Did he go to the doctor's complaining of deafness caused by eating cashews?’’

Ha Ha. Like that.

Reminds me of a birthday card I saw some time back. It had a bloke on a horse and a horse with no one on next to him. The caption went: ‘Bob suddenly realised his wife had fallen off her horse 30mins ago, which came as a relief as he thought he had gone deaf’.

Funny how cruelty translates so well into humour and becomes acceptable.... Banana skins and all that. (I thought it was funny too!)
